I just got my 500gb Sata2 32mb Drive by PhOeNiX
Here are few test
And i am on Sata 1
My system spec
AMD 64 3000 2.0 GHz
ASUS - K8S-MX
1 GB Samsung 400Mhz
Samsung 80Gb Main drive Ide
in bios it my ide by bios is that coz problem
Is drive ok
Those test where done with jumper on it



Checked hdd with seatools Everything is fine
This test without jumper


Got scan with HD tune 2.55
Same speed

Try copying a large file ~ 4GB through total commander from one partition to another and post time taken, transfer speeds you are getting

connect to another sata port on the motherboard and try.

As i said in the other thread your drive is running in PIO mode. The reason why it went to PIO mode is there are few reasons like the hdd is failing, ur sata cable not proper, the motherboard sata port can also be a problem.

What you can do is, go to System Properties >Hardware > Device Manager > expand the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers

Go to the properties of each channel > Advanced Settings , see if its running in PIO mode. Uninstall that channel and restart your system. Windows will automatically will detect the hard drive.
Now check if the channel which u uninstalled earlier is running in UDMA mode. If yes try to copy a 4Gb file to that hdd partition and check the transfer time. I think it should take arnd 4 mins or less only. If its taking more time, check the IDE channel again, if it has gone back to PIO mode, then there is something wrong.

nopes my frnd.
untill these hd cross 150MBps mark , u are not at all limited by sata1.


only thing he is missing out is say ncq in "ide mode"
again he is practically missing anythin

it is limited by SATA 1

if he switches to sata 2 then he wont get 300 mbps

it theoretical

u get arnd 250 mbps to be precise

i think you need to pull out the jumper to get sata2 speeds (250mbps burst)... check the manual from seagate.com for details...

first it is not sata1/2
it is sata-1.5Gbps and sata-3.0Gbps.

seagate 7200.11 has got max speeds of bout 100-105 MBps.

sata 1(if that's what u like to call it) supports upto 150MBps , still above theoretical speed of 7200.11.
then plz explain me how is it limited by sata1????:S

until the speeds go above 150MBps , nobody is limited by sata2/1.
that guy does not need any mobo upgrade for this hd.

again only thing he is missing is ncq(needs ahci mode not ide mode)
thus he is practically missing nothing.


to make it easier , dvd drives still have got very slow data rates. thus they get practically no advantage from sata interface. even today , burn times/read times of dvd drives are same no matter what u choose sata/pata.

but by ur analogy if drive manufacturers started to give sata2 interface than sata 1 , that would increase drive performance to double.



and now the jumper thing.
sata2 mobos support auto negotiation. thus if u plug in any sata drive it will detect its speed and run it on its supported sata revision.

but sata 1 mobos do not support it.
thus sata 2 disk will be unsupported by sata1 mobo . that jumper is provided to hard-fix the drive to sata 1 , so that it is supported by sata1 mobos.

but if the jumper is there the drive will not report sata2 , just read the freakin seagate docs, remove the jumper then rerun the test. i got higher results after removing my jumper :)

don't be so angry(and rude at the same time) dude.

what drive reports has got nothing to do with what its performance is.


and the higher results u got can u plz enlighten us about the margin?

where did you get the idea i being angry/rude? i know the average real world perf wont change much, but when i got my new PC about a month ago, IIRC the burst speed with the jumper was about 145 MBps and without it was over 200. this is the 500gb seagate 7200.11 barracuda ST3500320AS model with SD15 firmware...

Vishal is right , if you have jumper on the drive, it will not run on SATA 2 even if mobo supports it . If drive is actually giving higher speed than SATA 1's 1.5 gbps is another thing . If mobo supports sata 2 then remove the jumper .

Note that the HDTach reading is 250 mBps which is about 2000 mbps or about 2 gbps...
