well i'm getting 76-80MB/s avg, 100MB/s max on all softwares...so yeah it IS a bit slow
While copying, it starts at 80MB/s and goes upto 94/95MB/s (640 to another 640)....
I got it for the same price as AAKS...3600/-

Check the Boot times of the 640GB SE16 (AAKS) and a GP HDD ( GP HDD Model not mentioned in test )

.... and the HD Tach results...

Should i change the title from 'myth' to 'fact'
It doesn't matter much to me when its only for the hd movie dumps...fill it up, keep it aside...do a data transfer once a month while sharing....

Older review on TR of a GP drive. Looks like there is a large performance difference in any of the GreenPower drives.

@AK3D: That's for a 250GB/platter 1TB drive they reviewed. You'd claw a bit back from the fact the design is a 2-platter design, and the better density of the platter itself.

The fact is that the GP drive is

1. Cooler
2. Quieter
3. Slower
4. Cheaper

It's a question of personal priorities and what you're willing to live with.

I'm not sure the performance difference is noticeable, but it may give some the satisfaction of just having the faster car.

On the other hand you may be happy that you saved the money and are a little 'greener' and easier on the environment.

I notice no difference between the 750GB three-platter and 640GB 2-platter drives, and I'm not a benchmarking nut. I doubt the AACS will feel slower than the AAKS, even though in benchmarks it may show up as a slower drive. On the other hand, the Caviar drives are quiet enough as it is, and not half as hot as the 7200 series. I just wish WD had a better reliability record. I don't care about disks as much as the data.

Wouldn't the new WD Black series kick both these drives arses? I'm waiting for the new drives, but I can't decide whether to buy now or wait till the black edition arrives...

At least personally speaking I will favour the AACS only for using inside a case , otherwise its all the way AAKS. I have asked the distri and dealer here to return all the AACS, in fact when the distri found out thats its 5400~7200 rpm variable drive he was furious with the Champion HO as they told him this is Green power, better, faster and bit more expensive ....I personally had ordered arnd 8-10 nos for myself and other TE members! Hope there is some AAKS stock with the head office at least !

Mr. Amarbir must be a very happy man now
Sir ,
Very Very Happy
