Default [HELP] Very weird virus problem

I am having a very weird virus problem in my machine. This is specifically affecting my external drives. I had raised a thread earlier regarding autorun.inf but this seems to be something else.

What is happening is that weird name folders get created in my external drives. My media player which has a 1TB HDD has a couple of folders with names like TAJO, NIMUS etc which i never created and these folders are not accessible from windows no matter even if i show the hidden files. But on my media player i can see those folders.

Now avira did once manage to detect some sort of exe in that TAJO folder but said it cannot access the folder so cannot rectify this issue

So i think i can remove the folder by accessing those drives using a Linux OS. Hence i have raised another thread to have a ready to use off USB Linux distro

Any one knows what this virus issue is and how to solve it. I had last reinstalled my OS just 2 days back but it seems the virus has propagated again probably from a USB.

Simple mate, just create a windows XP live CD using Bart pe-builder or you will get that windows XP live CD in Hiren Boot CD.

Just burn that image to a CD, pop in the CD to tour optical drive, boot from it. Remember to connect your external HDD to your PC before booting from the CD. Now after booting from the CD you will get the usual windows explorer. Now just select the folder/files and delete those.

All the hidden files and folders including the system protected files and folders will be visible. So just iron out those virus.

Problem is that the virus is probably located in my machine somewhere but it affects only USB connected drives. Till now it has affected my external 1TB HDD, My all other external HDD, my sansa playee. So currently i tried to remove those weird folders using a Ubuntu live loaded from USB.

In Linux i checked those folders and what i noticed is that those folders have a exe file of some weird name and also a desktop.ini file

Well this doesn't seem like a weird problem. I've had such problems before.
Doing simple things should help you.

1. Run your virus-scanner (good softwares like Kaspersky, Norton, Nod32). Quarantine anything suspicious.
2. Install MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and update it. Don't scan for malware yet.
3. Install SUPERAntiySpyware and update it. Don't scan for malware yet.
4. Reboot into Safe Mode.
5. Run your Malware Scanners - Run both the scanners sequentially, deleting any references found.
6. If this method fails to clean your computer, download HijackThis, run and save a log, and then post the log to a reputable security forum such as BleepingComputer or GeekstoGo.

Smile Re: [HELP] Very weird virus problem

Just grab following 2 softwares and run a full scan (on high setting) one by one with updated definition:

* Antivirus Free Trials & Software - Kaspersky Lab United States
* SUPERAntiSpyware.com - Downloads

Also as above user said, Turn OFF System Restore for all drives. I bet you problem will be solved
