Nokia 5800 : XpressMusic Review

Here is a very short hands-on review of the ownership. Feel free to ask any specific questions.......Although this must have been done already and you must have read the reviews a 100 times till now

The Bundle
Neat bundle package set. Phone + 3.5mm Headphones + Multimedia Controller 3.5mm jack + Strap + Stand + TV Out Cables + Extra Stylus + Manuals + Warranty Card + Battery + Adapter + Mini CD + 8GB MicroSD Card.
Thumbs up: Neat bundle.
Thumbs down:The default scratch guard on the phone has a design all over it.

Nokia should have either left it completely blank or bundled a fully plain scratch guard along in the bundle.

The Startup
So I popped the battery in and started the device. The device bootup time was less than a minute up and running completely. The usual Nokia logo at the startup ( which can be replaced by Text as usual as in older models as well )
I loaded about 2-3 gig of data and even with it , the bootups finishes under 30 seconds currently.

New Firmware Update For Nokia 5800 is on the way!

thats the firmware update. i guess the small issues you faced are just teething troubles. nokia has a surefire winner with this one!

19k if i am not wrong , for a UAE piece with 2 years warranty

Also, one thing i found was the lack of the XpressMusic buttons on the phone. You can't turn of the music by just one button, you have to take your phone out, go into the music part and then stop it.

Well, T9 lovers rejoice , no adaptation required at all.....all you have to do is use the normal keypad layout and type away to glory. Zero adaptation skills needed.....It din't even take me a minute. SMS'ing is a breeze. The handwriting pad is AMAZING as well...its fantastic....the best part was the symbol recognition messaging system. Suppose i put up a 'custom' symbol and associate a message (for eg. Hi, How are you doing today?)....Then all I have to do is draw the custom symbol and the message "Hi, How are you doing today?" will automatically be inputted , amazing huh!

......so to summarize for sms'ing....10/10 for it!

@frank : the next and the firmwares to come are just to to make this super thing superb

GREAT review..IMO you have told all the things that you ahve to search in all the other reviews in between all the garbage

As for the camera, wait for the firmware update, things only get better from now on

Thats exactly what I wanted to do . Hit the nail right on the correct points. Yes, the camera aint bad actually , but just not upto the mark...im certain its a firmware thingy and like you said it only gets better.........

Will take some sample pictures in a while..... .....

Gaming section added to main post

The pre-loaded games are "Bounce" and "RT GR" both games fully playable on accelerometer and man-oh-man, wat fun it is. No controls , no touching all you gotta do is move the phone and let the phone do whats it supposed to do. I even connected the phone to the TV and checked it out just for the sake of checking it out....it sure did lag. However on the phone its fun for sure.

Is the panel replaceable? I mean if I need to replace a red colored 5800 with a black colored panel, is it possible?

why not

......although i wouldn't want to rip it off and check it out personally for obvious reasons , but i see no reasons why that aint possible..........this link might interest you and the many others as well.....

Just booked mine. BTW @hanzy, the earphones which came bundled , are they the music controllable type ? As in, do they have the music buttons? And is there a facility to replace the earphones with custom ones in them ? Coz i think the ones that came with my friends 5310 had those kinds.

Yes, and thats amazing too

music controllable is with the 3.5mm adapter which goes into the phone and the adapter itself has a 3.5mm jack for 'any' headphones / earphone to go in
