Hello people!

Well, in the middle of all the drama that’s going on in the Graphics industry, we bring you a motherboard performance review for a change.

We take a close look at the latest offering of Intel P45 chipset from the ASUS, the ASUS P5Q Deluxe motherboard. Today, the chipset scene is very confusing for the buyer. Intel’s own P35 chipset is being replaced here by P45. And mind you P35 is not that old or bad in the first place. P45 is the second chipset in the 4 series by the Intel following the release of X48 few months ago.

Lets have a quick look at the chipset first.

Seems to be a very comprehensive review as always
Damn need to spread reps
Btw I gt the P5Q-E for arnd 10k all incl.

Do you think the 2k extra moolah is worth it for the 16-phase power + Expressgate SSD

still can’t figure out why ASUS decided to go for 1 PCI express and one PCI gigabit LAN.
This is because of only 4 PCI-E lanes in the ICH 10R southbridge. One used by LAN, one used by the Asus EZ back up, rest I guess are used for the IEEE and other peripherals

I would say screw EZ backup or even IEEE. give me 2 pci express gigabit lan. PCI is big no no.

Sorry goofed up. Here is bit-tech had to say about why oen of the Marvell LAN controllers was on PCI

however due to the limitation of the south bridge, using this as an x4 disables the two x1 slots. Also because of this, one of the Marvell Gigabit Ethernet controllers is PCI based rather than using the better-performing PCI-Express interface.
X-48 can afford to have that because of the extra available PCi-E lanes unlike P45.So I guess this could only have been avoided by the use of only PCI-E 1x slot

My board still in box , so thinking whether to bite the deluxe

At first glance, 22 pages seemed very intimidating.
But am i glad i went through all of it and will do so once again to see if i missed something.

Nothing seems to be left to be analysed and i think i understood almost all of the stuff you explained in as simple way as possible-
which is a very good thing imho, taking into account my zero knowledge of such stuff.

In the end- a WAKAW review- as Lord Zhopudey would have said.

I did like the board, actually I loved it. The minor issues that are there are irrelevant to most people. But the flaws are flaws. specially the SATA connector drove me mad.

specially the SATA connector drove me mad.
Seems after some squeezing one should be able to fit a SATA cable
Will have to try out tmr with my board

Yup correct
In IP35-Pro the 4 PCI-E lanes of the ICH9R were directly employed for the electrically 4x PCI-E slot. So the LAN controller was on PCI bus. To the contrary on P45 , the 2nd PCI-E (8x electrical) is from the P45 NB itself....so some PCI-E lanes on the ICH10R are at least free

I tried fitting the sata there.
The L shaped connector does not go in properly, the memory lock comes in way there.
The regular one's plastic connector is high and wide enough so that it hits the card.
