Want to buy a game pad controller for PC

I love to play game with mouse and keyboard but my wife likes to use a game controller. So I have to buy a game controller for PC. I have already checked many threads and sort of confused between wired & wireless controller from Microsoft. What I found from google is that a wired controller only 8-9ft long & wireless version is on expensive side. So can you tell by your experience that which one is better wired or wireless? Which is more durable ? Can I increase the length of the wire in wired controller?

Also is it easy to configure in Windows XP?

I'll order it today or tommorrow. Planning to buy it online.

Wired/wireless? Depends on the viewing distance. If you are using a pc monitor, just go for a wired Xbox conrtoller. Most games dont require any configuring.Just plug it in and you are good to go.
