Query Suggest me a PSU + comment on the RIG I'm planning to buy.

hey,
this is my first post here.

i'm gonna buy a rig whose specs go like this..

phenom II x4 920.
MSi K9A-CF
2 X 2 gb ram(kingston i think)
ati radeon hd 4870 1GB(sapphire)
500gb HDD (western digital or seagate)
CoolerMaster gladiator(3X120mm fans included)

this is what i'm gonna buy now in a few weeks, but later, in 6-8 months or so,i'll be upgrading it with a 2nd hd4870 and possibly another 500gig hdd for RAID.

would a 500W psu be enough??i need a good, stable PSU.. was thinkin of the cooler master extreme power 500W or the tagan TG500-U37.can any of these handle the 2nd gpu and hdd i'll be adding later on??

if anyone has any suggestions about the rig, pls say so..will this fit my budget of 45K.(i'll be buying from s.p.road, bangalore) i need to add a dell 19" to this too. anything above tht i don need or a maybe should cheap out on?? my budget is pretty tight.the rig is mostly for gaming.

i also need to add a UPS. somethin tht'll gimme atleast 15 to 20 minutes Backup. gotta be reliable. i'm will to spend a lil extra. was thinkin about the APC 500VA?

dont buy any psu of cm extreme series. And you mean to say that you will be crossfiring your 4870 with another one after a few months right.. so i think you should atleast get a corsair vx550 for 5.8k or a hx620 for bout 6.5k or so. And it would be better if you'd buy a Gtx260 sp216 and sli it with another 260 in future. Plz check out the benchmarks. you'll just have to pay 1.5k more to get a new gtx260.

For 19" LCD and that Resolution, a single 4870 will be more than enough for atleast 1-2 years. And there is no Point in Sling/Crossfiring after 6-8 months. Either u buy Two cards at the same time or U should drop the idea of SLI/Crossfire altogether. Coz in 6-8 months, u can get a single card which will >= in performance, taking much lesser power, in the same price. So a single 4870 will be enough.

(note=i'm totally LOST) Dnt worry, u have came to the right place
And Regarding PSU, stay away from Coolermaster Extreme Power PSU's. U should get a Glacial Power GPAL650AA atleast for tht rig (4.5k ish).

1440X900(gettin a 19"LCD) for that resolution u dont need sli or crossfire, so u can go for a single card solution unless. infact for that resolution u can go for a 4850 or gtx 250 even maybe slightly lower card would do but ur budget should determine it but anyway sli or crossfire would be not needed

Adding another 4870 may add bling to your system but not real performance boost at that resolution. CF's are basically for high-resolutions and High AA and AF . I run a 512 MB 4850 at 1440x900 and I get insane FPS on every game I've played until now. Not a glitch in either COD 4 , Assassins Creed , CS-Source all settings maxed , DMC4 Maxed . 1 GB 4870 is a Ferrari at that resolution.

Do a CF only if your going 1920 above resolution LCD with AA and AF enabled and play High end games with very smooth frame rates.

Please guys, update your information about PSU's. Cooler Master has a range of PSU called CM eXtreme Power Plus series which are quite good. The earlier CM extreme series had troubles but not this one.

@OP
I dont think you need a 4870 on a 19". I have a HD 4670 on my 19" (1440 x 900) and beleive me, almost everything works on it at quite high settings. But, you could get HD 4770 GDDR5 @7k which should be sufficient for all your needs. (it saves a lot of electricity and doesn't heat up much)

For the rest of your rig, the experts are there for you.

Definitely Glacial Power GPAL650AA for your rig.
Also invest in a better monitor around 24".
Tweak your monitor +gpu combo acc. to your budget.

R u sure its not Cooler master REAL POWER PRO ??? Coz AFAIK, Coolermaster has only 3 series in India
Extreme Power
Real Power Pro
Silent Pro ...

Never heard of the series u mentioned.

TO OP:

Dnt get confused, setup a config u like in that budget, and then experts where will tweak tht for the best possible combination. Simple ??

Phenom II wud be better than intel config for same price. I would suggest PII X2 720 with that mobo. X3 720 does more justice to multithreaded apps than E8400/8500 even though game performance is almost close or same.
And yes, get the 4870 1GB. Its more future proof, than 4850 or 4770 even if they cud do the job as of now, but i dount if they ll make it in near future games.
4870 has higher clocks, GDDr5 and 1GB VRAm as opposed to 4850, which will push the card much ahead in upcoming games which use more than 512Mb textures.

4850 and 4870 differs mainly in memory segment.
4850: 256 bit DDR3 effective <2Ghz
4870: 256 bit GDDR5 effective 3.6Ghz
and GDDR5 oc much better too, and ive seen 4870 memory goes as high as 4.4ghz.

No need for any CF or SLi for that resolution as the fps will be more or less same [maybe some 10~20% increase] on crossfiring. If you really need that boost in performance, get a slightly better card now itself like the HD 4890 or GTX 275 for even more future proof.

I would suggest a Glacila 650AA for your rig. Simply because it has unbelievable efficiency and overloads like hell as per many reviews. It ll give enough room for oc, be in GPU or CPU or both. better vfm than HX620 if your dont mind being non modular.

Though i haven't tried it, from all the threads that I've been following online, i think the Corsair VX450 is the most affordable PSU that can support your card. Guys.. Correct me if I'm wrong.
