The xdr 200(from sony) is noticeably better for Rs 400 more then the 100...If within budget go for it...

Dude, how can the sound quality of a pair of headphones pickup.U gotta be kiddin!

Anyways when i tried the headphones,i connected it a hifi music system at the sony showroom and the output was so low and with no bass!!!!!
Also at high volumes, the distotion is so bad,its unbearable.I also tried it on a different music system at the showroom just to be sure and the same thing

@rawat.nav - I'd suggest that u test the headphones before paying for them. Then u will know wat im talkin abt.

^^ huh, most headfones need a break-in time and the XD100 are no diff. They need an approximate playback time of 24hrs to get the proper sound quality.

Anyways, the XD200 seem to be a more sensible buy at 1400/-..they own the philips 805 (imo ofcourse) .

I have tested both Philips and Sony headphones. While I have not got a chance to test the SHP-805, I have tested the XD-100 as I was considering buying it.

I feel that in the Philips headphones I have tested in the past, the quality of music has never quite been upto the mark. i.e music is always distorted one way or the other.

I remember two things about the XD-100.

1) One is that the base was too much. I wonder why atul did not find it to be bassy enough. IMO it was very punchy. The reason I was put off from buying them.

2) The second thing is that the voice detail was very clear...much better than any set of philips cans that I'd tested. I found the XD-100 to be well suited or rather optimized to regional music but not rock music with a lot of guitar 'n other instruments which seemed recessed or reduced vs voice and bass.

All said, I would spend another 500/- and get the XD-200. Even though I've not tested it, I've read favourable reviews of the XD-200 even over the XD-300.

Here's a link. Maybe you'll find it helpful.

Damaged Gears Retro Damage: MDR-XD200 & MDR-XD400 Reviews «

Also, I'd read somewhere that the XD-200s are made in Korea vs the rest of the XD series being made in China. I'm not sure about the ones we get in India though. I don't know if this influences your purchase but it sure does mine.

Forgot to mention: The XD-100's are very large and comfortable on the ears(200's should be the same). Unlike most of the Philips cans I've tested.
