I recently observed that there is some red bleedthough on my lcd monitor.

Its noticeable when playing movies, and if there is no wallpaper and i make the background black.

Comes in the top left hand side and middle lower portion of the screen near the monitor buttons.

previously these werent there to best of my knowledge.

I tried to lower the red color and it goes if the red color is set to around 70. but screen looks bluish and colours look unnatural. monitor is in warranty till feb 2010 i think.

Is the monitor panel dying or is the tube inside dying?

    Edit: monitor is viewsonic vx2025wm.

use a utility like Test your LCD Monitor or PassMark MonitorTest - Test monitors and LCD flat panel screens and verify. if the issue can still be noticed, RMA!

@rajivnairr, this can be seen even while windows has not booted.

@axeman, is it a valid point for RMA? i mean reading the conditions on the site, they mention rma only for > 7 dead pixels in panel. there is only 1 dead pixel in the panel right now.

there's nothing written about bleedthrough though.

Sad, your LCD monitor is starting to show back bleed which is due to uneven distribution of back light on the LCD panel, may be reason is bad back-light driving circuit. Try adjusting brightness to minimize bleed otherwise as other suggested, RMA is the best option with solid reason faulty circuit / LCD panel.

well its kinda easy to get an RMA with viewsonic... atleast it was for me... just give them a call on there tech support line and they would send an "engineer" to your place... you just have to convince him to believe that this is serious (I cant watch movie n play games and my friends samsung lcd is so freakinnn amazinnn)and he would then speak with his office to get a replacement or atleast a repair...

the engineer came today and couldn't do anything about it. said that if i went for replacement i will get only TN panel on the same monitor which i didn't want. so just got the issue closed there.

will let the monitor die on its own before i get a new one, hopefully better panels than Tn will be there at that time.

    I doubt that.

Try getting a new replacement panel for now.

bumping this more than a year old thread. I didn't rma the monitor then cause i was having doubts about the quality of the piece i would get in return. Now the problem has worsened. the screen becomes pink for a second just before windows login screen comes. Its that one part after windows loading screen there's a second where the full screen goes blank before the desktop login screen comes.

And i can see the red tinge even in daylight - usually if wallpaper is dark blue or black. So only choice is to replace the tubes myself.

Tried ebay but prices are costly - 3.1k for 4 tubes. those ccfl tubes in acrylic case that prime sells are the same but they come for 450 with an inverter, so these are expensive if imported.

Anyone has any idea where we can get the ccfl tubes for these here in india?

I don't think you can install CCFL!!!! tubes, as the LCD panel and the back-light panel are integrated together.

I think you should have RMAed your monitor when it was under warranty, they replace it if even little back-light bleeding is present. But in your case it was severe as it had a reddish tint!! so a replacement was eminent and dont worry about the quality of the new panel you'd be getting it cannot be worse that your previous panel. A friend of mine had about 2 cms on the right side with reddish back-light bleeding he got the entire panel replaced. Back light bleeding only gets worse with time.

And I'm warning you, do not to disassemble the panel yourself, the only thing you might end up with is even more uneven brightness. If you ever try such a thing!! which I would highly advice against, PM me too as I have a VG1930WM which has finally started showing back-light bleed + loss of contrast after 3.5 years now.

^ I already disassembled it once before. That was when the tech had come, managed to do something to the monitor and the backlight became uneven. I removed everything and put it all back very same day properly. I had seen how it was disassembled so I knew what to do.

I read on some sites how to remove the ccfl tubes. ebay.com also has a seller who sells the tubes for about 25 bucks for 4 tubes.

I've asked viewsonic india where to buy the tubes, so will wait for their reply. Since its out of warranty from a year now, i will have to ship the monitor to them which is out of question since i reside out of mumbai.

looks like it's time for me to open it up too. This is pretty helpful.

^ keep a digicam ready when you do it. i kept one and took snaps of the places on the monitor before opening any screw/panel so that i did not misplace/screwup anything while putting it back. Best of luck with your monitor

Update: Decided against going the DIY route.

I fell short of a lot of necessary stuff that was required for the process. I found out while i took the monitor apart to see the length of the cathode lamps. The things I require are given below. Since I don't have any of the below listed items, I will have to buy them new and thus cost of replacing the ccl would be more than what I would spend if I were to give it to say Viewsonic service center (they didn't even bother to reply to the mail I sent a week back, so I'm assuming they do not care to service out of warranty monitors So thinking of getting a new one now).

    Shortcomings in my diy project:

    1. What is absolutely necessary - the right tools! I took apart the monitor frame etc, and while trying to take apart the metal jacket covering the inverter circuit, I found that I did not have the right screw driver. My smallest philips screw bit was smaller than the head and the next bit I had was a little larger! Also the screw was a + type and not the ordinary type of philips screw we find. So that would mean getting a new screw driver set (watch repair type) which sells on ebay for about 200 bucks or so. (Was looking at the prices for toolkits and it seems every single dealer hiked their prices by a lot on ebay now.)

    2. Also found out that the aluminium foil tape that was stuck to the body is actually a heat dispenser. Problem is it does not stick back once removed. I measured the width and length and saw that a 2 inch width foil was used. The length I would require would be around 2-2.5 feet of tape to stick. Problem is I don't know where we get this tape here in India and what price, and importing it from amazon (3M brand ) of 2inch and 50 yards length would cost about - $13.5+shipping (~ Rs1.2K) to me

    3. Heat shrink rubber & plastic ends for securing the cclamps. These are available as a kit with 6 inches of aluminium foil from lcdparts.net for 7$+ s/h. I require 2-3 of these since my monitor has 4 tubes in it. Each tube costs around $13.5. So total cost excluding shipping is $13.5 x 4 + $7 x 3 = $75.

    4. Pointed soldering tip, hot air gun - to solder the ccl leads and for heat shrinking the rubber over the ccl ends. Don't have these and don't know cost but assuming they are about Rs 1000+.

So my DIY would turn out to be quite costly - around Rs 6k or so. And I would have the unnecessary and extra unused stuff lying about with me for an eternity. Also there's a chance of failure no matter how confident I am.

So result - Thinking of getting the Dell U2311H now.

Where can I get this monitor at cheapest price? Or should i get it from dell directly?

And for those who want to know the exact process of doing it, this guide should help - CCFL Installation
