PC configuration for my business !

Hi,

I have been trying to get the combination right for 10 business PC's I plan to purchase in the immediate future. The nature of work revolves around using MS office utilities, connecting and working on remote machines and working with adobe Acrobat. I want a relatively future proof option too and also dont want the people working in my office to complain about poor pc performance.

The budget I have is 21-22k per machine. The Monitor I want is certain, Dell E1909W which should cost close to 6.8k. That should leave us with 15k for the machine. Another important point is, we do not need DVD drives and speakers. The 15k should include :

Processor
Motherboard
Ram
HDD (preferably 250 or 320gb)
Keyboard and Mouse
Cabinet and power supply

Kindly suggest. The machines would be working for close to 10-12 hours a day. So power consumption is also important.

Transcend 2gb DDR3 1333 - 2.4k
WD 320GB 7200.12 - 2.1k (should be sufficient, go for higher capacity hdd later, cheaper)

VIP generic cabinet - 0.8k (You don't need superb build quality or ultra cool looks, also VIP-Kunhar does make OK cabinets)

VIP GOLD 400w - 1.2k (can easily support entry level GFX card too, eg 8600GT)

Logitech Mouse/KB - .7k

Total : 14.5 K

P.S. : +-0.5 for price differences in Mumbai & Cochin.

Minus the Gigabyte power supply, that config seems just about right to me. That system can run off a PSU with a slightly lesser rated wattage like the Zebronics Pro Power 350W or the FSP Saga+ 350. Both are priced at ~1.5-1.6k.

Micrsoft Combo KB&M=650

Hey, thanks a ton for your timely feedback. The popular choice seems to be AMD and AthlonII X2 240 as the processor. DDR3 like you guys pointed would make it somewhat future proof. I am torn between Asus, gigabyte and biostar as far as the motherboard is concerned. Which 780 / 785 mobo is the best buy ?.

Is biostar trustworthy ?. How good is their service, remember this is for office and replacement timing is very important

I would suggest to purchase all systems from Dell. it would save you from lot of headache.. Vostro 220 matches your requirement and starts from 26.5k.it work out a look better deal for you because of following reasons:

* Onsite support and warranty for complete PC, In business who has a time to chase separate hardware vendors for RMA?
* Preloaded licensed Software (OS & Antivirus)
* Sleek look and aesthetics of the machine

Their prices are little above your budget but it isn't a bad deal considering the you are getting more value. also, if you are getting multiple units, little negotiations can be done with dell reps and prices can be reduced.
I had worked on these machines in my previous workspace. nice sleek desktops!

The disadvantages of going for dell are,
i) They have Intel+DDRII combos.
ii) The warranty period is only one year. If you go for a 3 year complete cover it overshoots your budget by quite some distance(If you go for a assembled then, the monitor, proccy, mobo, RAM comes with 3 yrs warranty and the HDD comes with a 5 yr warranty. Just make sure you have good computerwaala who repairs the PC near your place and you are all set and done )

Hi Gaurish, i had considered going for a branded system, but when I spoke to DELL, they said they have no option to give it without an OS, and I do not need the OEM version of OS that comes with these systems. I am getting Windows 7 paper license which is more convenient and fit for a business atmosphere.

For Business ... definitely go with Intel Q Series Chipsets Equipped Mobo if the PC Strenght gonna be more than > 50 soon Enough ... how can the Q Series help u ... visit intel website and view their Demonstration of the Intel Active Mgmt framework Suite Flash Animations. If not more than 10 anyhow , go with what has been recommended above.
Furthermore Intel Embedded Gigabit LANs that come as a part of Q Series Chipset Mobo - would help to cut off cpu offload and DPCs ( Deferred Procedure Calls ) by a Lot Margin when operating at Giagbit Connectivity with Active highest possible Full Duplex transmissions.

I know I could have made it a lot less expensive if I stuck to ddr2 but as suggested by people in this forum, switching to DDR3 will make it a lot more future proof. What do you guys think about this ?. I need 320GB HDD for some video guide preparation purpose.

These rates are without Tax. Our firm is in a SEZ (Special Economic Zone) area in Infopark, Cochin so we do not need to pay any kind of tax/duties for the equipments we procure for office.

The total cost came down from 25950/- to 23,000/- for 2 reasons. (1) I switched from zebronics pro 500w to 350w (2) I ordered 10 Numbers (3) Switched from 320gb to 250gb (did that to save some bucks though I would have loved to go for 320).

These rates are without tax.

I have one more question. We have a graphics team too who would also need a few PC's. The most they would work on is Corel draw 80% of time and Photoshop 20%. What all changes should I make in the existing config before I buy ?. Please suggest.

^ For Corel/Photoshop throw in more RAM - 4GB at least.
An upgrade to the X4 620 would help too.

the onboard IGP would hold good for photoshop and Corel ? is x4 620 the best bet ? Remember, these are for offices and I need a power efficient processor too. Is there a value for money processor ?
