    Hi Friends,

I've been researching for a new computer lately.

My budget is around 15k-18k just for the CPU. I have an Acer x193w 19 inch monitor.

My basic uses will be intensive web browsing (by intensive i mean it shud not lagg at around 40 tabs on firefox), good windows 7 support with aero and preferably a 64 bit system for future upgrades.

I am also a casual gamer. Would play games like GTA IV, Burnout Paradise, (It shud be able to run them smoothly, even though at medium/low res)

Other than that a little video editing (preferably HD), a little photoshop, etc.

Also, the computer must be stable enough to run upto 12-13 hrs at length (just downloading), and shudn't over heat.

And about the motherboard, it should hav DVI (Dont really need HDMI, but if exists then great), should support minimum 8GB, preferably 16GB memory (for future upgrades). If the mobo has good onboard graphics like here (around 512 MB , then a graphic card wont be necessary at the present.

Other than tht, memory preferably 4GB+ and an Intel processor (is AMD better for durability?? Coz all my friends have had a bad experience with AMD)

    Thanks in advance

IMO you should go for AMD as its best bang for the buck. Is stable has no issues at all.

You have to up your budget a bit. Go for DD3 platform to future proof yourself.

AMD has many good Phenom II processors with X3 and X4 cores.

My personal favorite is X3 720BE.

Other then that the motherboard. Check for Asus M4A78T-E - ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

It even supports 16GB memory. In your case you would require good amount of memory as you will have 40 FireFox tabs open at any given time as you mentioned.

Believe me you will find more cheaper solutions then this which will suffice your need.

Umm..... DDR2 is preferred for cost and most probably i will max out memory by next year. Otherwise the mobo is really great!

    well, my idea was

    Gigabyte GA-MA785G-UD3H - $90 = 4.5k

    AMD Phenom II X3 710 2.6GHz = $100 = 5k

    2 x 2 Transcend / KIngston DDR2 800 MEM (or shud i go with 2 x 3 if i hav an Phenom II X3 proccy?) = 3k/4.5k

    seagate 7200.12 500gb HDD - 2.7k / 1TB = 4.2 k

zeborincs bijli with generic PSU - 2k (will it be enuff for phenom X3???)

    LG DVD writer - 1.1k

So total will come around 21.5k (can squeeze in this much extra)

and well, the mobo+CPU have been chosen so that all of em have low heat gen tech, so i shudnt need an extra cooler?

so how is the above config?? and are my quotes right??

Man there is a huge differrence in products which are available here and elsewhere (read US).

I remember last year I kept waiting for AMD 8750 X 3 BE but it never showed up in India. Reason I got was Indian AMD distris only go for products which can have big demands and hence big profits.

I dont know how but AMD Phenom II 710 X3 is not profitable according to Indian distributors.

You wont find it easily anywhere in India. Same is the case with not so famous motherboards. If you budget can be increased to 21.5 You should go for AMD phenom II X2 550BE (nearly as gud as 710). If you are hell bound to go for more than 2 cores options are

    AMD PhenomII X 3 720 BE 7.6k or

    AMD PhenomII X 4 810 7.5K - 8K

    depend on your usage

for your RAM question (or shud i go with 2 x 3 if i hav an Phenom II X3 proccy?). This does not depens on the number of cores your procy has. This more depends on number of channels which is MAX 2 for current AMD based Mobos. so 2X2 config is more than enough for you.
    System Updated:

    Dragon++ -> AMD Phenom II X3 720BE ,

    Biostar TA790GX 128M, Corsair 2 x CM2X2048-6400C5, Harddisk Seagate 7200.12, Samsung DVD SH -223F, Corsair VX 450W ,Samsung 2233SW and above all Saphire 5750 :hap2:

but paying 1.5k more, i'm getting a tri core porccy, (with possibility of unlocking 4th core)

and in mobo, paying .5k more, i'm getting a radeon HD 4300.

with the config i can game also decently, (the config completes recommended req. for GT IV) ,

although i just had a doubt, will stock cooling be sufficient??

and yes, i will be turning i my old system

    (

    P4 - 1.8 Ghz stock

    512 MB ram

    DVD writer

    80 gigs

    )

so expect to get arnd rs 2000.

someone please comment on the system i have proposed

(and also i would like to add, i love to experiment with these systems, as i would be installing win 7 + ubuntu and might even try OS X on it.)

hey another qsn.....whts the dif between GA-MA785G-UD3H and GIGABYTE GA-MA785GM-US2H coz the latter was cheaper and newegg showed me the same features.
