    Hi,

I am planning for to build a AMD Phenom II X4 955 based box,

with a thought of upgrading to a better single GPU Solution in the near future.

    I have shortlisted Corsair VX450W

But i am worried that it wont be sufficient juice for the future GPU pgrade.

Price is also a concern.. ( EDIT: budget around 4.5k)

Could someone suggest a Good PSU?

    Thank u in advance!

VX450 is really a very good SMPS. It will satisfy your needs for future upgrades also. Go for it. Else, whats your budget. Tell us that first.

is glacial power as good as a corsair 450/550????

i would suggest corsair 550 - leaves more headroom for those future upgrades.

or you could go for tagan-550/600.

avoid coolermaster extreme power duo 600w--it may be a coolermaster and it may be cheap @3500rs but its not that good.

    Mate,

Glacial power 650 Watts is definately a better buy over corsiar VX 450 W, Since it offers higher output at great efficency and comes with an attractive price yag of 4.7K compared to corsiar VX 450 which i must say is overpriced considering its output,

But only downside is glacialtech 650W comes with warranty of 2 years compared to 5 yrs offered by corsiar.

My vote certainly goes for Glacialtech 650 W:hap2:

Thank u ALL for ur replies...

My SMPS budget would be around 4.5k

& would be adding a ATi 58XX series card soon (when price becomes stable )

yea i do like the option of a the corsair VX 550W, but the price is the problem (last quoted price i got was 5.6k )

    @ tosh79

Glacial power 650 Watts, hmm interesting, can i get this anywhere in chennai or bangalore?

    @ sunny27,

yea i figured coolermaster extreme power 600w isnt that good,

    thanks for the heads up

Can the Corsair Vx 450Watt run the Phenom 955 + the future ATi 58XX card... without any problems..?

no would be a bit underpowered--incase u feel the ned to overclock or add a few more harddrives or stuff into ur pc--corsair 550 would do nicely---or go for the glacial power(i still maintain my stand on corsair!)

i've tried educating a lot of my friends on the importance of a psu--people skimp money on it and splurge on everything else---a good psu is a must.

    Mate,

Glacial power 650 Watts is certainly by all means the way to go between Corsiar 450, Corsiar 550. Provided you are willing to ignore the 2 warranty offered as against 5 years from Corsiar.

Here are few links for reviews of Glacial power PSU :

GlacialPower GP-AL650AA 650 W Power Supply Review | Hardware Secrets

    GlacialPower GP-AL650 650 Watt PSU - Bjorn3D.com

Techware Labs - Reviews - Glacial Power GP AL650A 650 Watt PSU

But i doubt wether anybody is keeping the stock for Glacial Power PSU In Chennai or Banglore,Most of the dealers here in south are all same, Comp hardware market here su**s :@, I am sure they may even not have heard of the existance of this PSU before, they will all try to push you to go for an Coolermaster or at the most you may find the much Hyped Corsiar VX 450.

So I suggest you place an order for same from any known/reputed dealer or else buy it from Lynx-india (Amarbir) if he is having stocks or Contact SMC International Delhi (They Do Shipments to outstation on request) Even i did the same, as nobody stocks Glacial power PSU in Hyderabad ! I requested SMC people for an shipment which they routed through thier client here

(M/s.Swetha Computer,Secunderabad) Similarly they might have clients in Chennai & Banglore too.

    +++11 for GP 650 AA

one hell of a vfm PSU. Other than limited period warranty, its anyday better than VX 450/550. Just go through the reviews provided by tosh, and you will know what we are talking about, unless you are a corsair fan.

    Mate,

But you can always use a molex to 6 Pin PCI-E Converter for second slot, Though one has to be carefull while doing the same.

Here is where i feel that Corsiar should have provided another 6 pin PCIE Connecter as corsiar 450 Watts PSU is capable of handling load of such card.

For HD5800 meaning HD5850...I recommend VX550W...I have the same..

but i think maybe GlacialPower 650W can hold off too...btw this one has 1 year warranty AFAIK, corsair has 5.

GP 650w is certainly good, better of the lot.

If it had 5 yrs warranty it would be recommended over corsairs and seasonic

There is tagan BZ 500w with all its bling @ 4.5k

    Seasonic 500W bronze @ 4.8k

and Gp 650w is unavilable in bangalore for sure and not likely in chennai too

BZ500[not TG500] is any day better than VX 450 [other than warranty]. Efficiency is at par, also its modular and bling bling comes for free. The problem is availability. I once asked rahul, itwares but he said its not available.

check this review: AnandTech: 500W to 550W: 12 Power Supplies Compared

also silverstone PSU is good one too: Silverstone 500W ST50F-230 Strider Serie

    its modular too.
