22" LCD - Dell, Viewsonic or Benq ?

Hi,

I am finally trying to move forward from lousy 17" CRT to the LCD domain.

I went to Lamington and inquired about the prices of DELL, Viewsonic and Benq 22" monitors at Mahavir.

He quoted 16.7 K for Dell SP2208WFP
For the Viewsonic 22" he quoted 13.7 K
For the Benq he said 13.3 k

Now I am a total n00b about LCDs, and so can't make up my mind on what to get. Saw better reviews of the Dell products and so am slightly inclined towards it.

Also, I think Dell E228 is cheaper by 2k than SP2208. Can anyone tell me whether its worth the 2k spent to get the SP2208. Also is it better to buy it from the local dealer or to order it from Dell directly?

Or should I go with the Viewsonic / Benq.

Money is not an issue, but I don't want to spend unnecessarily if there is no discernible difference

IF its benq 2200ED for 13.3k then get that moniter it has full hd resolution.If some other model then get the viewsonic VX2235wm-5,I got the same moniter for 12350 from prime abgb.


I think the most vfm moniter is the viewsonic one which I got from prime,ask prime for the above mentioned viewsonic model,it is a gr8 moniter with super low response time of 2ms,the extra feature which u get in dell is the webcam and usb ports(not sure abt it),but u r paying almost 3k extra for it,so decide wisely.

Benq 22" available here in chandigarh @ under 11.5k

I bought a Samsung T220 for 15.3k last Friday available at all Cromas outlet for 16k. Why don't you check it out?

It does not come with a dvi cable.

Benq ruled out due to 16:9 screen ratio. Dell SP 2208 or viewsonic 22 " ? Is it worth the extra 4 K?

What's the problem with 16:9 ratio? Full HD resolution (1920x1080) is 16:9 isn't it?

Go for the Dell SP2208WFP if you don't mind missing out on swivel and height adjustments..

Try and bargain for the Dell SP2208WFP. Awesome LCD u wont regret spending the extra money!

My roomy who is decently tech savvy told me that for most recent games, the 16:9 resolution is not available, and the screen appears stretched / skewed

However, I still feel the benq is a good buy after looking at the reviews. Still undecided. Don't feel like paying the extra 3 K for the Dell ... lets see ... will mull over it for some more days

Then go by what my guts tell me

all the LCDs being discussed here are with 16:9 / 16:10 ratios.
quiet impossible to find 22" LCDs with 4:3 ration (doubt if these thngs exist )
E2200HD from benq sounds very tempting to me...
dont know how it performs when compared to dell sp2208wfp though...

Now now ... that's a bit too harsh ... he's here on Techenclave and I appreciate his help most of the time. I think his point was that many game makers have started making games for 16:10 resolution apart for 4:3, but not for 16:9. So games might look a little odd. He said the Benq is better for viewing HD movies etc, but I haven't yet seen pure HD content (1080p) as yet. Also a 16:9 screen will be smaller in area than a 16:10 screen for the same diagonal length.

Lots of things to consider - God why don't we have just one option ! I'll talk to the Dell guys today. Lets see what price they quote.

Guess I was.. well most of the games these days do support both 16:10 and 16:9
