This is a discussion on Torrent Client and download Speed within the P2P forums, part of the Software Zone category; Does download speed change depending on the torrent client you are using?
I find that my torrent DL speed is ...
Generally, there are multiple factors involved in determining the speed of torrent downloads such as
Seed/Peer ratio
o. of seeds
torrent client configuration
router config
n/w config
OS config etc.
But if all else is configged correctly, torrents should easyly max out your connection provided the seeds are moderately good.
This was my assumption too, but it don't seem to be doing that, got more than enough seeds, (20+ seeding, hitting as high as 50 occasionally)
Check Torrent client for any max DL restriction, - none,
OS config ? - What to check here, didn't know the OS could restrict download speed.
This router config - what could be the problem here? I am having a running fight with my ISP - I should be getting 512KB he has set it for 512 but for some reason it Maxes out at 240k consistently (that is for speed) what could be the reason for torrents DLing at only 50% caacity and yes - everything else (net surfing etc) comes to a standstill.
maybe patching half open connections in xp to abt 50-100 would help??
set the half open connections in utorrent to half of what u will patch ur system
eg: if u patched it to 50 - set the limit as 25 in utorrent
and restrict the download to abt 5-6 kb less of total max kb and max upload limit to abt 3kb less than max upload limit, so that u can browse when ur downloading stuff.
eg: if max download is around 31Kibs in utorrent - so to browse without waiting for pages to load, set max download limit at 26Kib and max upload at 10Kib

The main problem is , torrent download speed is stunted, it is much slower then the total band width available to the system, and inspite of that the net comes to a standstill.
I guess the bittorrent traffic is being shaped by your ISP.
With my ISP (Asianet Dataline in tvm), even if encryption is enabled, the speeds are much slower than what is possible with a direct HTTP or FTP download.
Azureus has the option of RC4 encryption. Maybe that might solve things...
