| | Is there any P2P app for smart mobiles ? Is there a mobile which support downloading P2P apps through wifi and is there a app written for the same. If not can i believe this could be the answer to all our downloading problems. A app like utorrent with a scheduler and a mobile which has 20+ GB HDD space or a mobile which supports decent external storage of anykind coulkd be answer to all our P2P problems.
If there is one let me know about it. And if there isnt then why doesn't devlopers make one.
TIA
Switch
P.S. A device like zune or ipod touch with Wifi will also fit the bill perfectly. Are there any such similar apps for the same. |

Its not really feasible to download a 1GB+ file on the mobile phone, though theoretically it may sound okay, I've read there are lots of issues like disk caching and poor transfer speeds. Besides these apps are poorly coded and the amount of data flowing through them cause very frequent hang ups and crashes.
There is a P2P app for the iPod touch (Which will perform a LOT better than S60 and WinMo for sure!), check it out [UPDATE] Torrentula.app v1.2 (should work on all firmwares) - iPod touch Fans forum

| | Re: Is there any P2P app for smart mobiles ? ^ Yeah, the coding for the OS to start with. Copying a file from one drive to another via File Manager will take ages (Not for copying time, but for the OS to refresh and display the changes).
Besides, they are as it is so buggy with none having a half-decent browser, it'll be nightmarish to try and DL large p2p files on either.
Besides, I doubt any of them will offer > 8GB storage. |

Most recent nokia phones hav expandable memory + n95 and few others hav 8gb versions + expandable memory..
both nokia and iphone browsers are based on webkit..Both the browsers are equally good...What favours the iphone is its huge screen..
I see no difference whether you download from iphone or any other symbian phone except that you get a huge screen on iphone and that it retails at 3times the cheapest symbian phones with wifi...
Also, with expandable mem, theres nothing more left to say abt the storage..
does the iphone app you mentioned hav a scheduler?? A friend might find the app handy.. |

Use a E51 with 2 Gb memory card on an 8MBPS wifi to download. The S60 Wifi devices are really cheap, and does not come with a "big brother watching your every move" catch. Quote:

Half Decent browser. Hmm... lets take a look.. which OS comes with an inbuilt browser with desktop like page rendering, tabs, webkit based, made mobile browsing worthwhile, and guess what, supports FLASH!!
Need a hint, its not Mac OSX's mobile cousin.
Lay your doubts to rest, they are grossly inaccurate. N96 comes with 16GB Internal memory and supports upto 8GB Card. That is 24GB memory.
Atleast get your facts correct dude. |

| | Re: Is there any P2P app for smart mobiles ? Well i am so far guessing that its possible. Infact very much possible. Though i still don't have either a ipod or a symbian 60 phone but i will mostly buy one in coming months. The idea just stuck to me today morning as i was also planning to build a download rig but again the electricity consumption was a major issue.
I request somebody with proper equipment and spare time to try it out |

I personally use Symbian (on a P990i) and it still manages to throw up errors every 3-4 days on continuous usage. Same with WinMobile (5,6 and custom ROMs), they are definitely not stable as a rock.
Just curious btw, how many different OS'es have you used?
And don't give me 8Mbps WiFi rubbish, if you have access to a 8Mbps UL WiFi line, then that's excellent, most of us here dont.
@ Party Monger - Continuous disk caching on an external card is not recommended. It greatly reduces the life of the card and is very prone to data loss. I've experienced it first hand when trying to download a torrent onto a Sd card in a laptop slot. Quote:
