Default Overclocking Help Required

Hello,

Recently got myself a Phenom II 550 BE (0930EPMW) and an Asus M4A78-E. Been trying to hit 4ghz and I need some help for that.
  • Firstly what kind of temps should I be keeping the CPU under?
  • What Vcore and CPU/NB voltages shouldn't I go beyond ?
  • What roles do CPU/NB Frequency and HT Link play in OC'ing, for a better OC should I increase or decrease them?
  • Is CPU/NB frequency dependent on CPU/NB voltage ?
  • Can I overclock both by increasing CPU FSB and multipliers?
  • Anything I should enable or disable in bios except cool n quiet?
  • And finally can I expect the same settings can be used in dual core and quad core?

would be great is some of you could post your Oc'ing results with Voltages and bios tweaks. would also appreciate some noob friendly guides about Phenom II overclocking .

Have a Xigmatek S1283 HDT Cooler and cabby is very well ventilated.

Under 70C wud be good...
Dun exceed 1.46V Core or so without very good cooling...
Well...NB automatically gets OCed...so they do limit OCing
Yes
Yes
Disable any auto OCing if there in ur BIOS.
DEPENDS...

I have the same batch(0930) 550be, unlocked it using asus m4a785-v evo, currently oc to 3.4ghz nas nb@2.6ghz with stock cooler(garbage btw), im hoping to hit 3.8ghz once i get cm tx3 cooler
CPU-Z Validator 3.1
[*]Firstly what kind of temps should I be keeping the CPU under?

anywhere below 65-70
[*]What Vcore and CPU/NB voltages shouldn't I go beyond ?

1.35 cpu/nb voltage is recomemnded , although ive seen some ppl using 1.40
[*]What roles do CPU/NB Frequency and HT Link play in OC'ing, for a better OC should I increase or decrease them?

dont touch the HT link . it doesnt improve the performance that much. CPU/NB on the otherhand can improve ur memory bandwidth significantly, esp with ddr3 rams. try inceasing cpu/nb multi to 2600mhz @ 1.35v
[*]Is CPU/NB frequency dependent on CPU/NB voltage ?

not necessarily, mine was running fine at 2400 with stock voltag then i increased to 1.35 for 2600 mhz nb speed
[*]Can I overclock both by increasing CPU FSB and multipliers?

i suggest using multipliers. increasing fsb/ht ref would increase ht link and dram so the oc could be limited
[*]Anything I should enable or disable in bios except cool n quiet?

disable C1e
[*]And finally can I expect the same settings can be used in dual core and quad core?
dunno about dual core as i only oc'd after unlocking to quad.
