    Hi all,

I am planning to by windows 7, there are so many versions available and i am a bit confused which one to get.

The price difference is also much between the home and the ultimate version.

Can some one suggest me which one to get and is there any major difference in them apart from XP mode ?

it depends on what you want. home premium is more than enough to most people.

why do you want xp mode? any particular reason?

Well Home Premium or Professional should be enough for almost everyone.

Windows 7 Home Premium is what you should get. What you lose is xp mode and a backup restore utility which does not justify the additional price. Businesses would need the professional and ultimate edition. Given the low price difference between the professional and ultimate get the ultimate instead of the professional edition.

The home premium version is for the multimedia and gaming guy whereas the professional is for the businessman.

So, if you are a guy who wants to enjoy multimedia and gaming without worrying about compatibility mode and all, just get the Home premium and it will fulfill all ur desires...

Home Premium costs around 7.5k in India and yes, you can run apps in windows xp sp2 compatibility mode. Right click on app and select "Troubleshoot Compatibility"
