This is a discussion on Old one, Vista: 64 Vs 32? within the Operating Systems forums, part of the Software Zone category; Ok, so I got a new HDD today. Got Vista Ultimate waiting
Now, 64 or 32?
1. I do no ...
No problems going with Vista x64 now. Tech site Anandtech (anandtech dot com) has long moved to Vista x64 for benchmarks and they claim there is no problem whatsoever with it.
While I do not use the x64 version the 32bit home premium version works flawlessly. Just a suggestion. If you will be installing games/applications in the OS paritition then create a 120GB partition. With the default setup taking 15GB the remaining space gets filled up pretty quick.

Hey,
1. Any performance hit if I run 64bit Vista on "only" 2Gb RAM?
2. I think I will be fine because I mostly install games on separate partition My xp partition is currently 15Gb with only 5Gb space used Now what do you think?
@sidhu: I do teh same with my games
Also, cant use Xp64 cos me stable on 32, + dont have xp64 Vista I have a brand new installation to do so can change

Dude U can use XP x64 with 2GB RAM, its not bloatware, U can enjoy 64bit stability too. trust me its fastest OS I have ever experienced.
hehe..i kno, i kno. But like I said, I have a stable 32 setup and dont wanna mess it up in ANY way Thats why installing Vista on a different disk entirely. Will switch as required while booting
It's only a matter of time before topics like these will end up with the thread getting locked and someone going to prison for piracy. You guys discuss operating systems like it's tea or coffee, 5-10 bucks a cup.
Just kidding, you're absolutely safe as long as you don't mix religion, politics AND piracy. The former two could get you jailed lol.
FYI...i ve a genuine version of vista ultimate waitin to install it tho
Did lots of googling:
goin for the 32bit by the way. I see nothin going for the 64bit version right now based on my usage. future change, who knos. Right now, all my apps are 32bit, and i use nothin that requires that much memory to go >2Gb
Found some useful info:
A disadvantage of 64-bit apps is that they usually need more memory due to 64-bit pointers. Thus, running Vistax64 on a computer with 3GB or less only makes sense if you run applications that were optimized for 64-bit.
XP prof 64 & Vista Ultim 64 dual boot. can't get better.
U need licenses for both first legally speakin i mean
Me already went with xp32 and vista ultimate 32 for now (sp1 was already integrated in the installation ) Took me 4 hours but finally got everything installed just the way i want it
Techie007 or whatever your name is I happen to own orig copies of Win XP 32 and Vista X64. My office gave me a legal key for XP 64.
^^FYI the 64 bit version (genuine) is sold seperately. The DVD which I bought clearly says 64 bit software only. So if you have an original version curious as to which version you have i.e. 32 or 64 bit. Or did you buy both versions?
No offense but you get my curiousity about a 11K costing OS.
lol if you knew where I work you wouldn't ask me whether I use orig. or pirated stuff
Using Vista x64 for over 6 months now, no problems. Actually I do not even have XP installed anymore and currently no plans to install either.
I'll be keeping Linux on the other HDD and may be a "BSD like" OS too. THe good part of having 4 hdds. I can keep each OS completely separate from each other. No boot sector mess ups.
