Try using Mandriva to see if it detects your Partition.. I guess it will as current Ubuntu ubiquity installer is buggy it hangs at 82% and has some issue with hardwares//

Nah, the problem is that Newer Linux kernel require Sata controller to be set in more Advanced AHCI mode whereas windows is happy to work with older and slower IDE mode.

So i guess it would be same on all Distros, Mr. Mandriva Fan

@sidhu: do you have an IDE drive also? try disconnecting that during installation. also, if you dont have a floppy, then disable floppy controller in bios then try again... also check the ubuntu forums as suggested by gaurish...

ubuntu 8.04 worked perfectly for me. 7200.11 HDD with SATA dvd writer and no floppy on Intel DP35DP (P35 chipset) mobo

but it gave similar issues on my office desktop with Intel DG33FBC (G33 chipset) mobo with SATA WD 160gb HDD and IDE DVD ROM! to fix it, had to disable SMART in bios, disable floppy controller, and also replace the Sony IDE DVD ROM with a Samsung IDE DVD ROM, then it worked!

I have IDE DVD Writer, L.G. H55N. and yes I tried w/ and w/o floppy controller disabled.

It boots properly, I can run setup, just @ partition page no HDD found.

I dont have any options in BIOS to enable AHCI mode. Just 2 options BUS Master and SATA Controller, and I can disable and enable. Tried.

Same with Linux Mint 4.0 (7.10 Ubuntu).

Now will try Vanilla 7.10, that will work 100%, I installed before.

well, heh, you cant replace the DVD i guess

too bad, maybe ubuntu 8.04.1 due in july should fix these hardware problems that many users are complaining about on the forums...

7.10 is a good version to stick to until an updated release comes out... nothing too exciting in hardy for a reason to upgrade...

yea, i guess if you like KDE go for the latest Mandriva, if you like GNOME, check out Fedora 9... then post a review or something of F9

only thing i dont like about Fedora is the default apps like no openoffice (abiword/gnumeric) instead, but i guess its not hard to install what you need...
