I won't recommend 8.10 , as it has lots of regression ! and I don't even like the 8.04

I will recommend 8.10, regressions come in all distros' releases ! and I even liked the 8.04

(i say this after installing and playing around with multiple distros and finally settling on ubuntu, you should also try your luck with multiple distros before choosing what best works for you)

^^I would say if you are experienced enough nothing beats Arch and its vast repository.. I love Arch SVN repo : ) Using KDE 4.1.71

Debian user use debian itself or dreamlinux other wise Mandriva shines in rpm.. I just can't recommend Fedora yum sucks / packagekit integration sucks and installing codecs from yum is pain in the a$$

@darky: did you read about the new RPM Fusion - RPM Fusion which is a merger of Livna, Dribble and FreshRPMs to make it easy to add a single repo to install stuff like codecs etc in Fedora?

edit: actually they have 2 repos, one "free" and other "non-free"

+1 to DS and -1 to 8.10. its just too rushed , and has way too many bugs. including new ones in wi fi which was supposedly what 8.10 was all about.
I'm going to wait till the next LTS to upgrade

yea came across a bluetooth problem thread too : [ubuntu] Bluetooth not working in Intrepid! - Ubuntu Forums

i assume you're sticking to an older release or trying another distro?

seems ubuntu/canonical's small size means they cant catch all these regressions without community support, the last 2 releases - hardy and intrepid - seem to have been unreliable for many.

luckily for me all ubuntu releases since i started with 7.04 have been stable and peachy on multiple machines with different configs (home and office). thank goodness i havent been forced to another distro

upgraded already to 8.10 already from 8.04 ( 8.04 was mostly okay)
but the audio related stuff in 8.10 is damn buggy. pulseaudio keeps crashing/one program locks pulseaudio, and sound from nothing else is heard, the volume control slider doesnt go away, the audio defaults are all screwed up, it doesnt shut down properly... the list goes on

I thought you found the ALSA shutdown workaround, it worked for me...

For sound, would you want to try this: Howto solve all PulseAudio-related issues in Ubuntu -- Ubuntu Geek - at your own risk of course
