I don't see too many Fedora posts here, but the beta for version 9 is out: https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedo.../msg00011.html (source: Fedora Announce mailing list)

Release Notes: Fedora Project

Funny. Got a new rig (link in my sig) and just installed XP and Ubuntu Hardy Beta. XP took about 45 min to install (not counting the following driver updates and OS hotfixes) and Ubuntu 8.04 beta took about 15 min! XP is just the OS with SP2 in the CD whereas Ubuntu is the OS with a bunch of standard apps included! Very nice

The Ubuntu 7.10 Live CD was having issues with the normal and safe boot, already had the Hardy beta ISO on HDD and didn't want to download the 7.10 alternate ISO to try, so went ahead and installed the beta... Got about 400 MB to download for a partial upgrade now.

Everything worked fine, graphics, sound, networking. It even properly detected my LCD model and resolution!

Can't wait for the RC next week followed by the final release a week after that.

the default xp does take a lot of time to install , it is filled with a lot of bloat , i was able to cut it down to about 250 mb in size in nlite (with sp2) and the installation took just 11.5 minutes and that too on a P4 with an IDE drive

but Ubuntu 8.04 is going to be awesome , just waiting for the final version to be released

im also thinking of trying Mandriva

i will avoid F9 simply because i dont like the default apps (no openoffice etc) that much.

mandriva i might try, but why try to fix what is not broken (ubuntu) unless hardy has some annoying bug which will force me to move to mandriva or opensuse...

@darkstar: specs here: http://www.techenclave.com/rig-galle...llery-674.html q6600/intel dp35dp mobo/8800gt...

it actually took under 15 min and that too coz i waited and was thinking about how to do the partitioning, so spent a few min there finally to keep it simple, made a swap of 1gb and a single 10gb part mounted on /
