Karbonn Mobiles is launching their new product running on Google’s Android operating system, the Karbonn Smart Tab 10 Cosmic. The Karbonn Smart Tab 10 Cosmic is a 9.7″ screen size tablet (as the name would indicate) with a dual core processor, as well as the relatively new Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS. Add to that some decent pricing and you have a nice 9.7″ Android tablet alternative to the much costlier (above Rs. 20,000) tablets from other brands. Read on for more details.

Karbonn Smart Tab 10 Cosmic

The Karbonn Smart Tab 10 Cosmic is one of the very few budget Android tablets with a display size of about 10″ with decent internal specifications. Add to that a very competitive price tag, and the inclusion of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and this device becomes more and more interesting every minute. Let’s have a look at it’s specifications.

Karbonn Smart Tab 10 Cosmic Specifications:
  • 1.5 GHz dual core ARM Cortex A9 CPU
  • 1 GB of RAM
  • 9.7″ XGA (1024*728) 10 point capacitive touch screen
  • 2 MP rear camera, VGA front camera
  • 1080p video playback support
  • external 3G dongle support, HDMI out
  • 6,000 mAh rated battery
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

Chipset & Display

The CPU is strong at 1.5 GHz on the Cortex A9 architecture. The GPU is unknown at the moment. 1 GB of RAM is a nice addition (we’ve seen enough of 512 MB RAM devices). The 9.7″ display has a low resolution (for the screen size), but hey it’s a budget device. Need I remind that the iPad (and iPad 2) also had XGA resolution displays. The display does support 10 point multi touch, so there shouldn’t be a real problem playing games which require as much as four point touch.

Multimedia

The 2 MP rear camera is present just as a formality. The VGA front camera could have been better as it is the one which will be used more often (video calling). 1080p video playback coupled with HDMI out is a nice combo feature. The device will also support 3G dongles for Data on the go.

Battery & OS

A 6,000 mAh rated battery should easily enable around 6-7 hours of continuous usage (depending on the task) of the device, which we believe is pretty decent. Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is a welcome addition in exchange for the plethora of devices stuck on Android 4.0 ICS.

Price

The device is priced at Rs. 10,280 which makes it a great bargain.
