Want to give Google Android a try, but don't feel like buying a T-Mobile G1? LiveAndroid lets you download a LiveCD disc image of the Google Android operating system. Just burn the image to a disc, stick it in a CD-ROM drive, and reboot your computer and you can check out Android without installing it or affecting any files on your PC.

You can also use the disc image in a virtualization application like VirtualBox or Microsoft Virtual PC if you want to try the operating system without even rebooting your computer.

Wow!! I haven't even downloaded this yet but had to share it with you guys About to download and make a virtual os of it.

Also seems no mouse support yet, plus only arrow keys work.

While not supposed to run on x86, I would imagine it won't be too hard to port over.. kind of like a linux Livecd since it is Linux based. I actually got very busy last night and haven't finished installing it yet.

BTW, its a community (user) project and not from google itself, right? I know its hosted on code.google.com site but that does not mean its official, anyone can host there... and for sure Android can officially build/work on ARM and x86 as well if they want to enter the netbook market...

^^ Yes , its not from google , and porting to many other platforms has already started , some people at xda-developers.com were able to run it on some Marvell and Qualcomm processors

^^ xda is the bomb when it comes to custom Android ROMS, I have tried at least a dozen on my G1 and have primarily been using one from a developer called cyanogen.

Android is being ported onto more and more architectures apart from ARM. MIPS has completed such a port, but the effort is far from trivial even though it runs on top of Linux.

Just tried out Android 0.2 live on Virtual box. Select OS as Linux, other. Use the ENTER key to close the battery warning, the mouse to navigate, and the escape key to close a window or go BACK.
