    bought a dell vostro 1510.. with dos tried instaling xp and it said hdd not conected whatm to do how do i install xp

    If I understand properly, your laptop has a SATA hard drive which Windows XP CD does not recognize. You will have to disable AHCI mode in the BIOS. For details, please read guide. Please try the steps suggested in this guide.
