Default Samsung N510 netbook with ION LE available in US

11.6-inch 1366x768 available for $599

Back in August, we briefly mentioned that the Samsung N510 netbook had finally peeked its way into the European market, beginning with several retail listings in France. At a price tag of €499, the Intel Atom equipped device was hardly a sale when considered against the wide availability of consumer ultra-low voltage (CULV) netbooks found at roughly the same price.

As of November 22, 2009, several retailers and major etailers in the United States have begun listing the Samsung N510-4B netbook (NP-N510-JA02US) for an average MSRP of $599. To recap, the core hardware specifications most notably include an 11.6-inch 1366x768 HD display powered by an Nvidia ION LE with unofficial DirectX 10 support, an Intel Atom N180 1.66GHz CPU, 2GB of DDR2 667MHz, and an HDMI output. This netbook also comes with Windows 7 Home Premium x86 by default, resulting in one of the first devices we have seen to include Microsoft’s new OS that hasn’t been from the ASUS Eee PC lineup.

Other hardware specifications include a 250GB SATA II 2.5-inch 5400RPM drive, a 1.3MP webcam, a VGA output, three USB 2.0 ports, RJ-45 10/100Mbps Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n WLAN with Bluetooth 2.1+ EDR, a 3-in-1 memory card slot (SD, SDHC, MMC), headphone and microphone jacks, and a 6-cell Lithium Ion 5900mAh battery respectively.

The netbook’s physical dimensions come out to be 10.70-inches (W) x 7.40-inches (L) x 1.17-inches (D) with the lid closed, with a total weight of just 3.08 pounds. Newegg currently lists the Samsung N510-4B with ION LE as in-stock for $599 with free shipping (tax not included), while Provantage carries it on Special Order for a smooth $571.38 after shipping with no tax.

Looks good. But is it worth the premium over Atom models?

Wow that's too expensive compared to my Mini. I could buy a full fledged 12" laptop for that kind of money.
