I am planning to buy a Dell Studio 15 laptop with the following config:

    Processor : Intel Core 2 Duo 8600 (2.4 Ghz, 1066 FSB, 3MB cache)

    RAM : 4 GB DDR2

    GPU : 512 MB ATI 4570

    HDD : 500 GB 5400 rpm

    Battery : 9-cell battery

    Dell backlit Keyboard

I would like to get some expert opinions on this config.

Also, I would like to get the opinions of existing Dell customers.

Also, let me know whether it is possible to get any discount or rebate from Dell. I stay in Bangalore and I don't know anyone working in Dell.

    Thanks in Advance..

I am using the Studio 1537 version and it's doing great. Had some problems with the touchpanel but they have removed it completely in the 1555 series so you don't have to be worried about that

Regarding the 9-cell battery, it pops out a bit. That might be somewhat uncomfortable when you use it on laps. If that's ok with the then go for it. Otherwise my 6-cell battery gives me back up of full 3 hours on balanced mode. In power saver mode it gives around 3 and 1/2 hours.

Regarding discount, they themselves will give discount which will equavalent to the octrai/tax in your city. At least this was the case with me and a friend of mine. I fought a bit for some more discount and instead of cash discount they gave me a free dell bluetooth mouse. It's worth Rs.1500.

Rest everything with your system looks great! That's it I guess

(And ya, most important thing W-A-I-T-I-N-G! It will take anywhere between 7-10 days to get delivered no matter what they say)

i just got the same config delivered to me yest. it' nice.

i also bought the creative upgrade, which aint working. will be taking that up with dell.

the 9cell battery is good if you travel or have frequent power cuts. gives 4.5+ backup. atleast that' what I got.

dell provides EPP discounts to employees of 250 indian companies. i got 5%. so find out if your firm is eligible..or if you have some frnd who can do this. they'll ask the guy to just send across a mail confirming the order.

Thanks guys, for helping me decide. I have placed an order for this laptop and managed to get a waiver on the local taxes + 5% Corporate discount + a free Belkin Backpack :hap2:

Does the creative sound upgrade make any sense? I have selected this as it does not make much difference to the price, but I heard that it is just a software solution. Please let me know your views on this.

The software solution is next to nothing. But anyways, the new 1555 comes with a sub-woofer so it already has better sound than my 1537

The final price came to Rs.52,513. I will post pics once it arrives, which according to Dell will take 7-10 days.
