    Acer 5830TG (1GB GPU) vs 5755G (2GB GPU)

Hey, I am about to buy one of the two above mentioned laptop in a day or two. So went to many brick-n-mortar stores to check onto the latest prices..I've zero-ed on two laptop and seem to be inclined towards 5755G. Please see the details below and see if my decision is correct or not.

    Hard disk: 5830TG 500GB

    5755G 750GB

    Ram : 5830TG 3GB

    5755G 4GB

    GPU:Both Nvidia 540M

    5830TG - 1GB

    5755G - 2GB

Now prices, 5830TG @ Tata Chroma 42K with all useless Dusherra goodies..

5755G @ Vijay Sales 41K.. again with all useless goodies.

Which one do you think i should buy considering that 5830TG has superior build quality and longer battery life while 5755 (i've heard) has some over-heating issues..

My primary use would be gaming and movies... also note that I'm a careful user and its highly unlikely that I'll ever roughly use the laptop(regarding build quality). Nor do i intend to take the laptop outside my house (regarding battery life)...

What would you reccommend considering the +ve's of 5830tg and the price and specs of 5755G???

The 2GB will probably be slower memory and as a result will probably be slower overall.

Both the Models use Nvidia GeForce 540M graphics card. Is it possible that there can be slower and faster variants in the same model?? I'm a little ignorant regards GPUs..

    Thanks for the info..

the Chroma reps didn't inform me about any such offers going on. Anyways neither me nor anyone in my family or friends owns an ICICI card.

They were, however, giving away a 500gb hard disk though...My primary focus stays on getting a value laptop... a little extra money spent wont be a problem..

    NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M - Notebookcheck.net Tech

Has support for both, but no mention of which is faster. But if possible, go with GDDR5 as that will be better.

Also, regarding the HDD offer, i think it can be used in conjunction with the above offer. Where do you stay? You could ask any TE member to help you out, who has a ICICI CC.

    Re: Acer 5830TG (1GB GPU) vs 5755G (2GB GPU)

All right, read some forums and posts on the net and have come to the conclusion that 2GB of GPU is virtually an eye-candy for the graphic card as the present card 540M does not have enough capacity to utilize 1GB properly, let alone 2GB. Also, the 5830TG comes with a 500GB portable hard disk... now its merely about 5830tg ( 3gb ram + 500 gb hd + 500gb external hd) vs 5755G ( 4gb ram vs 750 gb)..

And I've decided to go with 5830TG since the better build quality and 250gb of extra storage space is worth more than 1 gb of ram (in case of 5755)...

Thanks to vivek.krishnan and chaos for taking active interest in helping me out..

^ Good choice (But in the earlier versions there was some throttling issues in the 5830TG. Do check out whether they have been rectified now through updates)

got the i5 one.. Also got a "Zen pack" free and a "Killer pack" free after some bargaining at Chroma..at a price of 41K

Zen Pack contains a mouse, card reader, mouse-pad and a LCD screen cleaning liquid and a brush (which is useless considering the chicklet style keyboard).

Killer Pack contains a Watch (definitely not worth of being called a timepiece), an Eyewear, a small towel, a deodorant, a water bottle, a wrist sweat-soaker(dunno what they call it) and god knows what else...

and now realized that they didn't supply a HDMI cable. Gotta go and buy that tomorrow.

Would post the review in a week after fully testing it..

    Re: Acer 5830TG (1GB GPU) vs 5755G (2GB GPU)

its performing good so far... has a great battery life (around 4 hours while performing demanding tasks)..

The only downside i came across was that it gets heated up ( I haven't owned a laptop before so i don't know whether its normal or not. Secondly, here in surat, temperatures are high as summer, so that could also be a reason for over heating, dunno how it would behave in winters.)

Secondly, ever since I had bought the lappy, I was mostly busy with

    1. Downloading Windows 7 (No installation media came along with it, except an image of factory state windows, but i find it useless with all the crapware that comes installed with it.)

    2. Formatting it (Acer idiots formatted the 500gb hard disk with a single 465 GB partition, alongwith an image of Factory State Windows on a hidden partition of 15Gb which i think is a pure wastage.)

    and

    3. Downloading and Installing the drivers back.

So i haven't installed a game yet, would be doing that shortly and would comment on that performance later.

Bottomline, its a good laptop. I have watched a couple of movies (regular and HD), hooked up with HDTV. Performance was satisfactory on all the counts. So i would reccommend you to Go ahead and buy it.

P.S. Its colour definitely makes it stand apart from the standard black laptop crowd.
