Do I need a home server you ask?
Do any of the situations below sound familiar? You have 2 ...
p.s. i wonder whats the minimum cost one wud incur to build this minus the hdds
dunno mate...Though assuming you have none of the parts available in spare and had to build one from scratch, It should be 3.5-4K for a base proccy (celeron/sempron) + mobo, another 400-500 for RAM , and another 400-500 for the PSU taking the total to 4.5K - 5K excluding the HDD
The cost of the HDD obviously depends on the amount of storage you need on the server...

Also added it to my blog with a link to this post , hope you dont mind.
Read the full guide in one full stretch. Got inspired. Gonna' try out as i'm havin' an old cranky 5year old box with a no-red-colour-monitor and a motionless optical mouse.
I personally, am interested and passionate about web technologies and as such i was attracted by this FANTABULOUS guide.
THANKS A LOT
Post more buddy.
u ppl (along wid v ppl who congratulate and checkout) are the gr8 brainz of our country.
I was thinking about this for some time , there are few things in my mind
Firstly, what if the power goes off ? How is the system supposed to start up again without user intervention . I remember we had mechanical switches in older cabinets/mobos , which would switch on the system after the power came back. Can a similar thing be done here ?
Secondly, isnt windows remote desktop a simpler solution ? Just give the system a name and password, and access remotely from any windows based system using remote log-in.

Most BIOSes support a toggle for a fresh startup after power resume.
Having said that, it'd a good idea to hook up a dedicated ups for this server
with a low drain rig (and no monitor), the ups should keep it up for even a couple of hours power downtime

of course not...Use RDP over the web and you'll quickly know why
Php/html front ends are far more elegant and faster to use
