Briggin Fox Glacier

I am at Fox Glacier in NZ .Its one of the easiest accessible glacier in the world its 13km long.I am mesmerized with the untouched nature here.Every place here is a scenic beauty.I am gonna spend 1 full month here ,hopefully i click some good snaps .I would request the experts here to find out the mistakes and provide remedies of my pics so that i can correct myself and click better pics

Its been raining very badly here from the past 2 days .The approach road to fox glacier view point is closed due to falling rocks and flooded pathway.I hope it will be open in the next few days.I am planning to go for sky diving (15,000 Ft )and scenic flight to the top of the glacier in the next week.

TIA

Here are some pics i have clicked .

I have the following queries.

Why is that most of my pics are turning grainy??
What settings should i use while taking snaps of nature ,waterfalls, mountains covered with clouds??

Although your pictures are nicely framed, I advice you to click pictures in "P" mode (Program), and set the ISO to minimum value, since your pictures are having a lot of noise, also buy a cheap tripod it will help you a lot in getting sharper pictures, put the camera on a tripod and have 1 or 2sec timer, that way you can eliminate any blurring caused by the slow shutter speed caused by low ISO.

In P mode you can enhance your shot nicely, P is just like auto, just that you have more processing control on your pictures, but the metering (calculating of shutter speed and aperture) is done by the camera, so its as good as Auto, but you get better control.

Does your camera shoot RAW format ?

Thanks for the tip ANP. I do have a tripod .I am not able to use it here because it been raining pretty badly , i am forced to take the pics real fast.I will start using the tripod once it becomes a sunny day .Yes my cam does have the RAW option.

I can see only one grainy picture. The others seem fine to me ?

About composition and light I will leave it to the photo gurus to help you out !

But 2 comments from my side -

- Your first photo is tilted to the right. During PP you can remove the tilt and when shooting do keep it in mind to avoid tilted photos. But if you do have a tilt, dont worry since its very easy to remove during PP

- I suggest you avoid shooting through glass as your pictures will seldom come out nice. Exceptions are there of course. I doubt you could have asked the pilot to open the door so that you could shoot the sky from above without shooting through glass !

- IMHO most of your pictures (except the first) have no stand out subject. You need to either zoom or get closer to your subjects to improve your pictures. If you are lazy like me, make use of that 20x zoom !!!

Sorry for the OT
But since u are in NZ and in South Island...just wanted to Say that DON"T miss out the adventure sports in QueensTown...I did the hightest Bungy Jump (452ft..costed some 200$, and other bungy jumps, canyon swing, sky diving)...doing these adventure sports in NZ is different in itself...

I took a week off to explore south Island ...hired a car from christchurch and went around to queens town (& milford sound), fox glacier, picton.
Also covered the top 10 scenic drive which comes after westport (which was a disappontment)...
U gotta drive from fox glacier to westport amd queenstown to westport...these 2 drives are out of the world

I still remember...I had spend around 9000$ in a week among 3 guys (car, tickets, adventure sports, etc)... stayed in youth hostels and kept the car for 5 days...
took the ferry from picton to Wellington (Its a must and is said to be one of the best scenic rides...again)

@ Vercetti i will be going to to queenstown in a weeks time.I doubt i can go to every place in South Island coz i am going to be in NZ for another 2 years. This summer target is Fox Glacier and Franz Joseph Scenic Flight.I wanted to do to Sky diving ( 15000 ft) but cannot as i am a bit over weight than .I have driven from greymouth to Fox Glacier.Took a bus from Christchurch to Grey mouth. The entire drive was just amazing

$9000 is a huge amount.I will go on a tour of entire NZ with my better half before i come back to India for good.
