yea its great choice....3850 256mb is actually the best bang for buck...

put in 3k more and get an 8800 GT naa...

8800GT for 12k Nikhil? If thats the case, then 8800GT is better much better value for money than the 3850. If its 13.5k, then putting in 4.5k more might a little too much if you've set your budget to ~9k.

HD 3850 with 512MB and dual cooling is best, Gecube provides. 512MB will servive longer.

Well, I've read that there's not much difference between the 256mb and the 512mb versions.



And yeah the 8800GT is pretty much out of my range, and I'll be using this to play pretty much only TF2 at 1440x900, with everything maxed out

At higher resolutions and with higher quality textures even at 1440x900, the 512MB will make a difference alright.



But I don't know how much it costs in India, I got mine from the US.

For that requirement a 8600gt 256mb ddr3 will be more than enough @ 5.5k !

If u want to buy a 9k graphics card I suggest wait for 15 more days , the 9600GT would be out by then and it will be pitched right up against the HD3850.



Secondly if you are investing 9K,to safeguard your investment don't buy a 256MB card

No point in getting it as performance will be close to the 7600GT, you cannot really call it a UPGRADE.

Secondly ATI has always been a bit expensive in India, so it will not be a $100 card anyway

I'd strongly recommend you to wait for the 9600GT ... it should be slightly better than the HD3850 , and priced lower than 10k's (atleast hope so) .. just another few days to go ...

if ur impatient a hd3850 will serve ya well...wrt to frame buffer size , the diff in fps wont be huge...



or if u can add a few thousand bucks more u`ll get the zebby 8800gt for around 12.5k...perfo is be better than 9600gt...

^^ if the game uses more than 256mb of local memory,won't a 256 mb card choke to death?ok,that was a bit harsh but won't you see choppy gameplay? 512mb is a must if you want to future proof your card these days.

9600gt is a good choice if you can wait,and in my opinion should wait for,even though the 9600gt review that i have seen pitted a 512 mb 9600gt model against 256 mb model 3850 which i think is a bit unfair considering a 8800gt 256mb plain sucks compared to its 512mb variant.

its best to wait right now and see how the 9600gt is priced and performs relative to the card you are thinking of buying right now.

i hardly see 10-15fps difference in higher resolutions....in benchmarks..i think 256 is the perfect card for 3850...i am getting one from U.S...shud cost my sis around 8k....
