seems like a rambling to me for shutting out inquirer by Nvidia(as if, if Nvidia wud have given them the card under NDA they wouldn't have published the scores), but if there is any truth to the performance numbers then its gonna be ATI's season.....

According to Inquirer:

NV has a dirty tricks campaign lined up here, we told you they would have to drop the price when they saw the 770 number, and they did.

FUD adds:

Nvidia was planning to launch the Geforce GTX 280 at $599 and the GTX 260 at $449, but now it looks like both cards will end up priced lower than it was originally planned.

The reason for this is simple, ATI will price its cards aggressively. The new suggested retail price might drop as low as $499 for the GTX 280 and $399 for the GTX 260. We were advised that some of these prices, especially the GTX 260, might go down further within a few weeks after the launch.

ATI's Radeon HD 4870 will again be cheaper than the GTX 260, and our sources believe that it can give it a run for its money. We will see about that, but at least the HD 4870 will end up cheaper to begin with... From all we know today, ATI’s card will end up cheaper which might make it more attractive, but it looks as if ATI will continue to mess with Nvidia’s plans. They messed up Nvidia’s suggested retail price with the RV670, and they don’t seem to stop with RV770 generation.

yeh nvidia will be surely have the faster GPUs..
Gt260 should be 20% faster than the 4870
and the GTX 280 around 40-50% faster than the 4870.

But the point is that is it worth to pay twice as much for the GTX280 jus for a 50% bump.

we all know crossfire scales good...I guess HD4870 will be a more viable soultion than one GTX280 that is till the R700 comes out in august.

Why would the system wont even have sp2 installed? when all xp's come patched with it, I see a poor interpretation with these numbers. 3d mark 2006 is more of cpu benchmark, so 15k doesnt look bad with the quad on 3ghz. And well I would love to see the price drop of GTX 280, my step ups would become cheaper

Edit : that might be vista they are talking about with SP1!

^^ Thats more like it but I would think 2 way SLI would score similar since TRI sli doesnt scale very well, and with new cards I wouldn't assume they fixed it!

o GeForce GTX 280 - $649
o GeForce GTX 260 - $399

The embargo time for the GeForce GTX 280 and GeForce GTX 260 is on Monday, June 16th, at 6:00 a.m. PDT.
The GeForce GTX 280 will be available in quantity on Tuesday, June 17th, 2008. The GeForce GTX 260 will be available the following week on Thursday, June 26th, 2008.
