How to force 75Hz on 2209WA on HD5870?

    Hey guys

I'm tired of the tearing I encounter while gaming at 60Hz.

I know that my LCD is capable of doing 1680x1050 at 75Hz quite easily but I haven't been able to configure it for the same. I know that its more to do with my HD5870, since ATI won't let anyone run non standard refresh rates for a LCD.

Please advise what I should do to attain the refresh rate?

    (OS: Win 7 x64)

    TIA

At 1680x1050. Didn't really like the way it displayed 1920x1080

The optimal resolution for the 2209WA is 1690x1050 @ 60Hz. Pardon my ignorance here, but how did you force the panel to display 1920x1080?

Re: How to force 75Hz on 2209WA on HD5870?

I was doing some research on the optimal settings for the LCD since I just RMA'd it.

Found out that not only can it do 75Hz but it can easily handle Full HD resolution. Found a few reviews and forum threads confirming the same.

The latter can be achieved on any GPU, but the former is easier to achieve on Nvidia rather than ATI/AMD.

If you are sure that your monitor works on 75Hz, why don't you change it in Advanced display settings.

My monitor too supports 75hz and I can change it with HD5850

Re: How to force 75Hz on 2209WA on HD5870?

Its in the manual that the LCD is capable of running at 75Hz but 60Hz is standard, but ATI has some policy, I cannot remember the name, which won't allow me to set it at 75Hz for 1680x1050.

That is why I want to do it manually through a software or something else.

Nvidia allows you to set the Refresh rate in advanced mode, why can't ATI...

Re: How to force 75Hz on 2209WA on HD5870?

There is an option to toggle the refresh rate on the CCC. Will go back home and research it out. Though how you managing 1080pi on that panel..? Which link and modification you referring to..?

Re: How to force 75Hz on 2209WA on HD5870?

I saw the option in the latest CCC, but as soon as I select 75Hz, it lowers the resolution.

I don't think there is an option in CCC to force refresh rate while keeping the resolution.

I'll look for the links once I reach home.

I read in a forum that it supports 1080p, so I set it through windows settings (after deselecting the option which hides unsupported modes.)

Ran it for a few days, tested through movies and games, had no issues.

This will let you set the refresh rate, using the "tweaks" option. I use it to force other changes, but should work for refresh rate too. It is quite a nice tool.

You do realize that 1080p is plain screwed up on the 2209WA? This is a 16:10 monitor. NOTHING will appear correct if you force a 16:9 ratio.

I know it does. I was just mentioning that it can handle 1920x1080 @ 60Hz quite easily.

    I prefer the native resolution.

The dell specs for 2209wa show that highest resolution supported is 1680x1050 @ 75Hz.
