^There's not enough space to install 2 120mm fans. ATM 2 92mm ones're possible.

Trust me Freaks, those additional VRM sinks that AC provides are complete POS. They aren't properly sized to fit those VRM's on the 4850. I tried & tried to fit them in every possible way but they wouldn't balance themselves & would fall off. Finally got rid of those & am running the card without an VRM sinks now. Working fine till now, so hope for the best.

^Not sure but u do need sinks for the VRM. Get some cheapo stuff and stick them.

I thought one of my 4850s conked off cos of no thermal tape b/w the VRM sink and the VRMs. This's strange since u've been running without any so far.

The problem is I don't exactly know where to get those VRM's, more so which ones in specific. I have been running the card without them for like 3 months now. The temps never cross 50 degrees, EVER. But since there is no software to monitor VRM temps, I guess that leaves me with no choice but to carry on.

It's a bit though to get it in India. I'd say order it from KMD. Took me just a day to get delivered to my address. I suppose you could order a few Zalman VRM's which I have heard are very much compatible with the HD4850.

This is what I am talking about: Product Detail

KMD FTW!!

Once the cooler arrives, open up the bundle and see if the VRM sinks are present which're compatible with the card else get the Zalman-sinks thru him.

I'm going for Arctic Cooling S1 Rev 2 and AC Turbo module for my MSI R4850 which came with a shitty S.S.C Card runs HOT but Fine in all the games except COD4 where it usually crashes, dunno why, posted here and in TD forum too but no reply. Catalyst is updated to the latest.

Come on man. You should have bought it till now. What are you waiting for? Armageddon?

It will really help prolong your card's life. Overheating for a longer duration will eventually fry it up. So better protect it rather than risking it. Trust me it would completely be worth it.

Default Re: Cooler for HD4850?

After a long wait, I finally bought Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 Rev 2 and its Trouble Module too. I also bought MX-2 Thermal paste for the job. I've a MSI R4850 with single slot cooler which ran hot so wanted to upgrade to a better cooling solution. Since I didn't have that isopropyl alcohol cleaning solution and didn't know any other household substitute of it, I just cleaned the VRAM chips and GPU with a dry soft cloth. After that I applied thermal paste, simply screwed the S1 module using 4 of provided 6 screws and then fixed Turbo module on it.
When I booted the system there was no display, Situation was same even after 2-3 re-boots so I reverted the card back to its default S.S.C state and then booted the system, this time I booted but BIOS was reset. After making the necessary changes in BIOS I loaded the OS and now system is working fine. Now the Question is "WHY THE HELL ISN'T AC ACCELERO WORKING WITH MY CARD ? " Why the S.O.B card doesn't gives display when an after market cooler is used? Is it because the card needs to detect the fan connected and won't boot if it won't detect one or what? I nearly spent 2K on this stuff so please tell me what is wrong with the card?

Nothing related to the fan at all. Did you fix the Accelero's heatsink base properly over the card?

Yes, I smothered the MX-2 all over the GPU and screwed the S1 to it gently but firmly but shit doesn't works. Can u post the pic of how u did it, I mean how does it looks now after fixing S1? I even downloaded a YouTube video showing how to replace the SSC with S1 and did exactly like that but still its a mess.
@ Amarbir, everywhere I've seen the S1 is same so don't beat yourself about it. What I'll do is that if the solution doesn't pans out then will bring the rig to your place and then maybe you guys can fix it?

^^ Firstly, you are NOT supposed to be SMOTHERING the GPU with MX-2.
Secondly, why did you even apply any aftermarket paste? The cooler comes pre-coated with MX-2.
Thirdly, Why are you not using all the screws?
And FINALLY, the cooler has had a revision to enable its VRM modules to be used with a 4850 or something to that effect.
