A noob's guide on buying consoles!

Thread merged. Hope you do not mind Rakesh since the first post already has a lot of information that would help you.

Grab the cheapest version right away and get a few exclusives to start with. There are chances that you may still get the older slims which are a notch better in construction and build quality. The newer slims have a slide-on disc cover compared to the slot loading mechanisms on the slims (and the older phats as well). If you can get a 160GB console, that would be the best thing. If you cannot source the older slims, grab the 12GB super slim and upgrade the hard drive. The hard drives are the usual 2.5” 5400 rpm drives that goes into a laptop (has a 9.5mm height restriction though), so buy a 320/500 GB drive and you can install and upgrade the drive yourself.

As for the controller’s learning curve, this is going to be pretty easy. I wasn’t very familiar with the controller and FPS titles. I had played Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 quite early on after I sourced my console but I was able to complete the titles without much difficulties. Some (or almost all) of thee FPS titles have some sort of auto aim mechanism so this should help you out.

Will be getting a Xbox 360 shortly . Getting it with kinect for 22k without warranty . Its a 250Gb model .

Saving are enormous , but still a question for reliability is there . Are the new xbox's still prone to RROD ?
This might be a noob question from my side , but i have never owned any XBOX , only playstations

None that I am aware of. Have never come across an instance of the RROD on the newer slims. If it overheats, it shuts down or something but that RROD feature itself have been removed from the console.

22K is a fair price or it can be Had for cheaper ?

What does eBay pricing say? There were a few 7.5% off coupons around so try one of those. I haven't checked the pricing since a long time.

this is the cheapest link i could find at 34 k but this is with warranty . I am probably getting it VIA SNS . This price is after factoring in customs +- 500 RS

Vast difference in pricing

That's a vast difference! 350 USD for the 250GB console, the Kinect sensor and 3 titles! Looks like these prices haven't reflected here. How much is SNS quoting for the landed price?

Just one thing - if you are getting it from the US, you will need a step down converter to plug the AC adapter of the console since it is not a universal adapter. Just keep this in mind.

I cannot pm You :( .

I won't be getting it from the states . A relative will be shipping it to SNS UK Addresss

Well yeah I have disabled PMs since all the newbies keep sending me responses to warnings and infractions! Can be a pain sometimes. I am sending you one.

@Aman27deep: Aman, you've to do some major editing bro! :p

New X360 revealed yesterday during E3 (but got no mention sadly!); pricing remain the same just the design changed.

Hello everyone,

I am looking forward to decide on which game station to buy. As I am really new to this, and I don't want to play games on my system which has old aged 9600gt.

1. Playstation 3
2. XBOX 360

Now what features would be better, choosing high capacity HDD, Slim ?
* what is modded version, are they available in both system, how does this help in gaming?
please put in your opinion over this, so I can make my decision.

Looking forward to you reply.

Regards,
Faisal

Wait for the next gen consoles

can't wait dude, I am already fixated on one of them, also I don' t do much gaming beyond COD, Battlefield, Max Payne 1 and 2 very much into FPS with somewhat in NFS series as well..

It would be more like a stress buster.. for the hectic day of work so I can play 30-40 mins

Now since you are new to this, i do like to advice you to play all the current gen games or atleast 80% of them.
Cheapest way to do this?
Get a RGH xbox 360. This console would be modded to allow you for playing downloaded games.
Its mostly plug and play so you wont har to do much tinkering at your end.

I would advice you to go the legit way instead of downloading and playing ahem version of games (give the game devs some credit for what they are making)

Now back on the topic, between a 360 and a PS3 i would advice you to go with a PS3 esp considering the lineup of exclusives just released this year and planed for the future (TLOU,GOW:A,GT6,B:TS, etc)

You can play multiplats on either console and with GTA 5 coming out later this year you would be up and ready in no time

Hope this helps, Cheers.

The Last Of Us is worth buying a PS3 for .. Get a PS3 for the exclusives. But if you want to play online FPS like COD, Halo etc. Get a 360, I have both and really prefer the 360 controller for aiming and stuff.

Online FPS --- 360
Exclusive Single player titles--- PS3

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the advice...

I think I will go with PS3 as I would mostly be looking to play singles or sometimes may be double with my friends..

So tell me what should I choose...

what is modded version.
what should be HDD size .....

Thanks
