    i dont think sony will do that. ps2 is also selling like hot cakes even today and by introducing a ps3 with ps2 compatibily will be a foolish movement from sony's side. and not everyone here cant afford a console with 15k+ {lets assume new ps2 will sell at 15k}

    they want to build a hack proof unit , less power consumption, less heat, and a smaller power brick & also 320 gb HDD with ps2 compatibility.

    As if we dont know who leaked the access to the cores of ps3 all of a sudden.

    If sony can stop the usb from going 2.0, cant they stop the hdd expansion plans of the gamers..?

    Not only they let hdd be replaced and warranty doesnt goes void, they keep increasing the hdd space themselves. How much hdd a legit gamer would need while playing a few games even on a rotational basis ?

    For all i can guess, the stage seems to be set.

    We all know Sony will pull the plug on ps2 some day or the other. Also the news for ps4 being in development has come out already. Any corporation would want the inventory for the existing console to move as rapidly as possible, paving way for the milking of the accessory sales later on. PS2 will be phased out and current ps3 will take its place. The hacking of ps3 has resulted in bumper sale of the console and definitely dont see ps3 hacking be put to rest in the future.

    FYI.... PS3 allows you to store your media on its internal hdd and also allows you to playback them as and when reqd. Its a good media center and its for this reason that Sony allowed the hdd change in the first place. I do remember that when I had the 40GB PS3, I sorely missed a bigger hdd as I used to run out of space soon.

    Now with a 320GB hdd I do run out of space but for a diff reason

    I know its a media center and everything.. but you really find that a plausible thing ?

    it seems more like a front for the storage being provided for the people to exploit it.. much the same reason your last line allude to

    The media center capabilities doesn't live upto its expectations either. With a selected few formats being supported OOTB, I am not sure how many of us would be storing the media inside the internal drive. The reduction in power consumption is a welcome change, although the difference isn't much.
