Error Urgent help!

i own a athlon x2 250. today while cleanning the dust i wiped off a greyish grease on the haetsink and the chip( what a fool!).was it the thermal compund? wat do i do now? i hv heard that removing the thermal paste voids warranty.plz help.

p.s. stranglely the temps havent gone haywire.

yes it is thermal compound and also wiping it off does not void warranty.

For further you can use a good thermal compound. for cheap solution you can use sunbeamtech tuniq tx2 and for good but pricey solution you can try AS5, MX2 from arctic cooling.

Try googling about these products.

Get some new thermal paste. Read up on how it is to be applied before doing so. And you don't need to remove the heatsink while cleaning.

get a CM HTK 002 thermal compund tube @ 150Rs. No way ur warranty is voided.

also is it unadvisable to remove the heatsink often? i remove it often to blow the dust off. also is it necessary to reapply the thermal paste everytime u remove the heatsink?
what is the proper way to clean the processor?
so many queries?plz bear with me.

First of all. Why do you remove the heatsink to blow dust ?? Not necessary. Just get a vaccum cleaner (or a car vaccum) and blow inside the cabby. That is more than enuf.

Yes, whenever you remove ur HSF u will need to reapply fresh thermal paste after cleaning both the HSF and proccy surface with ethyl alchohol ( i think). You can even use cotton or any lint free cloth, but the former method will be better.

Now you can get a DOW CORNING thermal compound and eject all the contents of the compound to the HSF and install it. You can get this compound for 50 bucks...

I am using the same compound and my PC is OK..

i thnk i shud go for sunbeam tuniq tx2. heard gud reviews abt it. what do u say?
also how much is it?(price)

i wont be able to get the grase bfore tomorrow. so shud i switch off my pc till then or can i continue using it?
my temps r normal but they go up every now and then for no reason. is this normal for a pc with no thermal goo on the prccy?
