Sudden problems after a BIOS update

    my rig:

    amd athlon II x2 250

    biostar gf8100 m2+te

    sparkle 9600gt 512mb ddr3

    dynet 2gb ddr2

    500gb seagate

everything was fine till yesterday but after a bios update the windows 7 splash screen pauses for a second before booting. even while gaming the the frames drop every 5 seconds.

eg: while playing prototype i normally get about 35fps but every 5 secs it drops to 25 then it comes back 35fps even in less crowded areas.:@

this happens in almost every game.can somebody help?

i have disabed indexing. no viruses.

    Re: sudden problems

i did the bios update coz the newer bios gave my cpu better support.yup i did select load optimized defaults but nothing happened.finally there is no option to revert to the older bios(in the biostar bios updater).

everything else runs fine its only during the booting and gaming.strange,eh?

    Re: sudden problems

have u run a occt and checked stability? probably the bios is not as suitable as you felt. are you monitoring temps?

the booting aspect is fine imho, a bios update may introduce additional checks increasing the time.

Load temps of the CPU seem to be in the higher side. Check the ventilation inside the case. Please post the screenshots I asked.

^^ need to check if all settings are correct, that's why I'm asking you to post a screenshot.

Okay it wasn't visible first. Settings are fine.

Check if Cool & Quiet it enabled/disabled in BIOS. Also check if the settings of the same in control panel and tell me if what it's set to .

If you have only one RAM stick how it will run in "dual" channel mode?

Flashing BIOS without any particular problem in system, just because of update could be harmful.

What is the basis of this statement?

BIOS FLASHING has no harm if done following the proper procedure.

Often it adds support for newer hardware and features

Why and How to Flash Your BIOS

BIOS Flashing, What is BIOS or CMOS flashing?

    The hazards of BIOS flashing

As described earlier, the BIOS is a crucial component of your computer since it is always the first program that runs when you turn the machine on. If the BIOS does not run, the machine cannot boot. Therefore it is very important that a BIOS upgrade is performed properly. If it fails, it can permanently ruin the BIOS, resulting in your computer becoming a door stop. Common reasons for BIOS flashes gone bad are power failure during the flashing process, and flashing the BIOS with an incorrect BIOS version. Because of these dangers you do not flash a BIOS just for shits and giggles, but only if there is a very good reason.

In OP's case, he should revert to an older BIOS version and verify the issues faced.

Re: Sudden problems after a BIOS update

Reminder for you guys, not to flash BIOS unless there is a REALLY GOOD reason!

P.S.: Not referring to the Topic started.
    Intel AMD Phenom II 550BE with Sunbeamtech Core Contact Freezer | Sapphire HD4850 GPU | MSI 785GM-E65 | CM 690 Cabby | Viewsonic 19" VG1930wm Monitor | Corsair VX450

May not be a great rig.....but good enough to run all games with decent FPS
