Default Sound not coming from asus a8n-e

Hi all,

Yesterday I moved my PC from one room to another, when I connected back everything, the sound didn't come up. Now I check out everything. Tried using my headphones to rule out speaker problem. Booted in Ubuntu to rule out driver issue. Then I opened up my cabinet and I didn't find anything missing(though I was not sure what I was looking for ), except this green colored jumper which was at base of my cabinet. It has fallen loose. Could it be the reason? Can anybody tell me where it belongs?

Any other cause? Please help.

1) I checked BIOS. Sound card was enabled.
2) I ran multiple applications too. Movies/songs/all on both OS.

Regards,
Deepak

Green Jumper .....AFAIK asus uses blue ones on mobos and i think it got nothing to do with sound ..
anyways refer to jumper section in the manual .....

http://www.thetrailingedge.com/image...-a8n-e-big.jpg

^^ helpfull to cross chk the jumpers locations...may be while unpluging green pin might have damaged (once happened to my frnd mobo in where he lost complete sound device while shifting)

does the device manager shows the audio controller??...if its enabled in bios it should show up....try manually adding the device driver otherwise the soundchip is gone.

Yeah even I was surprised to find a green jumper as all the others were blue.

What green pin? Something related to the green 3.5mm socket in which I insert audio jack??

Yup the device manager shows it. BIOS shows it too. Ubuntu shows it too. It isn't the driver issue. What could lead to busting of soundchip?

It works fine. I can't hear it though. But the waveforms show it.

Can you explain a bit more about that green pin?

Shows in BIOS. Shows in device manager. Even in Ubuntu, the volume system tray icon is there.

That means u got a pblm with the socket (green one ) where ur 3.5mm jack goes ..may be small pins inside that green pin might have broken

Better get it to Rashi ..

Have u confirmed that the speakers are working with others?

Edit: Try bit pressing the jack that goes to 3.5mm green pin while playing a song and see if u get any sound

Nah pressing hard din work.
I can confirm that I have tried my other earphones and headphones in same jack. None worked.

I don't think I have warranty left on this. Been close to three years. Anyways, that would be too much of hassle. I would rather buy a cheapo 300 bux soundcard. M not much of a audiophile

In the ASUS A8N-E, if you are not using the front panel audio connectors, you need to connect two of the pins using a jumper. That jumper might have fallen off.
Place the jumper as shown in the pic below. Sorry for the extremely noobish job

^^^

Actually it is like this(dotted line is the jumper(both blue) )

o-o
o
o-o
o o
o o

Now this was how I found when I opened case after no sound. Still I took them out and put them back. No use. Can you confirm if only top pair has to be connected?

@all
What price can I get a very basic 2.1 channel audio card? If possible suggest model no. too.

As it seems that the socket is faulty - you can easily get it repaired. IMO should not cost you more than 200 bucks.
BTW does your board has a front panel audio connector? If you have one then connect it and use it.
