    Here is my config

    CPU: AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 2500+

    Motherboard: Asus K8S-MX

    Memory: Hynix DDR400Mhz 512MB

Here are some similar problems I had previously

    http://www.techenclave.com/graphic-c...zes-72540.html

    http://www.techenclave.com/cpu-mobo-...ain-70636.html

The second link describes the present problem closely.

    Here is the present status

The PC was booting fine yesterday on onboard.

Today I bought Bijli and a zebronics 450W PSU and transferred the setup. It didnt POST.

The mobo led glows, the CPU fan spins, the dvd drive gets power but there is no display on screen.

I tried 3 different PSUs in all. I also tried a gfx card GF2MX, the fan on the card spins but no display.

Pulled out everything and connected just the PSU, mobo, RAM and monitor. Still no display. Tried 3 different RAM sticks in both slots.

Also tried resetting by pulling out the battery for an hour. Moving the reset jumper for half an hour. Neither of the method worked.

There is no system beep either.

I searched around the internet and found hundreds of links with same problem with no specific solution floating around.

And yes, pressing the power button for even 10 seconds just doesnt shutdown the mobo.

Last time I had this problem it started working fine later.

    Uh Renegade, seems the motherboard is nearing its EOL;

It should be at least 1-1.5 yrs old..

If it has warranty, even then ur problem is double thronged - RASHI!!!

    Seems u've tried all possible knacks which otherwise I'd have suggested now;

@renegade i used same mobo with 2800+ athlon....face same situation after 2yrs usage.....the cpu fan worked...even my 5200 powered on...n led glowd on mbo too....yet no display....tried everything...wtever u did....finally gave it to my dealer....he sent it to asus....got it back but said mobo gone kaput wen they tested for a day.....then said as it went kaput due to them...they fixd it up for me....then no probs....until i gave em back as buyback..

so according to me time to get new mbo or try givin it to local repairer..may fix it..

remove everything out of the box........set it up on a table......and check if it works.... ......or jus check for any shorts anywhere.......

@sunny - I cleaned the slots with a narrow nozzled blower and then with a brush.

@game - will give it a try in few minutes, have 3 such cables lying around. Though the monitor is fine since I am using it with my laptop right now with extended desktop dual monitor.

@gannu - It is 3 years old so no warranty.

@kippu - where will I get a sucky ages old processor. That can only happen when I get official paid help. So 2nd last option.

last option of course is to buy a C2D. I even bought 1GB DDR400 RAM today

EDIT - @hanzy - thats what I have done right now. Its all laid out. Cant seem to locate any shorts or blown capacitors either

Remove both the RAM's......attach the system speaker to the mobo.....and see if it beeps....if it doesn't beep....then its either the board or the processor........to be sure abt this......remove the processor...blow clean area where the processor sits.........reset it.....and don't clip on the HS completely...jus run it loose and check......if the board beeps....something wrong with the ram slot / rams....

Its morning !!!.....get up do the stuff......all the best for the trial , i know and exactly understand how irritating it can be....just try the stuff without the rams as i mentioned and we could narrow down on the issue.....sorry won't be able to check TE until evening...... ...

a zebby PSU claims its next victim

same thing happend to my A7N8X when i plugged it into a zebby 500W. was booting on Old PSU. died when i plugged it into the zebby.

My advice , RMA the mobo, get another PSU. The zebby psu will work, but its a killer

the PSU is in all probably the one which caused the problem. But the mobo should be dead by now . I think the mobo is from the capacitor plague era, so particularly susceptible to damage.Newer ( recently manufactured) mobos might have a better chance of surviving the PSU

    Alright.. no RAM no beep

No HSF no beep, the proc does get heated though without HS.

Even tried setting all jumpers to default as shown in the manual.

Also tried a hard reset (no battery + CMOS reset jumper) overnight. No show.

Might just throw it in bin by tomorrow.

As for the zebby PSU. There is no way that I am going for a 1.5K+ PSU so I doubt any other PSUs would be any better. Is there any particular issue with the zebby PSUs.

from my experience there is. any generic PSU should do fine. I prefer iBall
