Hey guys, need your help. Will be assembling a multi purpose rig this weekend. Will use it for regular desktop processing, gaming @ 1080 and downloads (24x7). And, I'm totally confused. Don't know what to buy and hence have fixed a budget of about 60k max. Would be delighted if I can get the rig up and about below this.
Gaming would be FPS, racing (NFS et al), etc. So, here goes..

    1. Q: What is your budget?
    a. 60K
    2. Q: What is your existing hardware configuration (component name - component brand and model)
    a. CPU - Intel E5200
    b. Motherboard - Asus P5KPL-AM/PS
    c. GPU – XFX 8500GT 512MB
    d. RAM - Kingston 2X1GB 800Mhz
    e. Monitor – Ancient Acer AL1714
    f. SMPS - Corsair HX620
    g. Seagate SATA 80Gb and 1TB
    h. LG DVDRW
    i. Zebronics Bijli cabby
    j. Altec Lansing ATP3
    k. Logitech Kbd and mouse
    3. Q: Which hardware will you be keeping (component name - component brand and model)
    a. HDDs
    b. SMPS - Corsair HX620
    c. Kbd and mouse
    4. Q: Which hardware component are you looking to buy (component name). If you have already decided on a configuration then please mention the (component brand and model) as well, this will help us in fine tuning your requirement.
    a. CPU – AMD Phenom. Confused between X2 and X4. If X2, I would like the 550BE. Would the 955BE be an overkill?
    b. Motherboard - any compatible motherboard. DDR2 or DDR3?
    c. GPU – 5770 or 5850?
    d. Ram depending on mobo
    e. 1Tb X 2 HDDs
    f. Optical drive (IDE)
    g. 22” FullHD monitor. Nothing expensive.
    h. Do I need a CPU cooler?
    i. El cheappo cabby with enough space and ventilation.
    5. Q: Is this going to be your final configuration or you would be adding/upgrading a component in near future. If yes then please mention when and which component
    In the next 6 months,
    a. XFire if required
    b. Sound card – Asus (will connect to my amp for 2 channel)
    c. Cabinet – CM/Thermaltake
    d. Populate all RAM slots
    e. Blu ray writer when prices come down to sane levels.
    6. Q: Where will you buy this hardware? (Online/City/TE Dealer)
    a. Calcutta
    b. Open to online purchase
    7. Q: Would you consider buying a second hand hardware from the TE market
    a. Yes, if under at least 2 yrs warranty
    8. Q: What is your intended use for this PC/hardware
    a. Gaming
    b. Browsing
    c. Desktop Processing
    d. HTPC maybe
    e. Download rig, 24x7 operation
    f. Watching HD movies maybe
    9. Q: Do you have any brand preference or dislike? Please name them and the reason for your preference/dislike.
    a. Don’t want A-Bit, bad experience. Should have good support in Calcutta
    10. Q: If you will be playing games then which type of games will you be playing?
    a. FPS – high settings
    b. Racing - Grid at medium to high settings
    11. Q: What is your preferred monitor resolution for gaming and normal usage
    1. Gaming – 1920x1080
    2. Desktop – 1920x1080
    12. Q: Are you looking to overclock?
. Should I? Would need step by step guidance from yall
    13. Q: Which operating system do you intend to use with this configuration?
    . Windows 7 64 bit

I have mentioned both X2 and X4 CPUs. Would get the one that suits me. I mean just because I've mentioned 955, doesn't mean I want that. If there is a cheaper alternative that serves my purpose, am all ears. Same for all the stuff.

    Thanks in advance.

P.S. I have an Xtreamer and would like to stream movies/music from my rig. Which router to get?

    bump.. suggestions please people.

How would you like 2 pcs instead of one ?

Since you would be using the machine 24/7 for downloads you should split your 60k into 2 pcs of budget 21k and 39k resp

One for 24/7 downloading and the other for Pure gaming @ 1080p

    Wat say ?

    I suggest:

    RAM thru KMD

    MSI Mobo, and not micro-atx

    Less HD space

    Cheaper cabinet

    Samsung 2350 or 2233sw

If you are not more into multi media, video processing, editing and converting, even a 550BE or 720 BE will be just fine.

@Anubis: How do you say an i5 rig costing more than 17K along with really crappy DDR3 will provide more vfm than an AMD rig that may include a 950BE or a cheaper X2 or X3 and TA790GXE which would cost 13K max, in Games, especially when talking about HD gaming?

I know i made a mistake and i corrected it with my next post.

See my last post , I made 2 fresh setups of 21k and 39k

One for 24/7 downloading and the other for HD gaming @ 1080p

    Now , wat say ?

hey wats the diff betw using
    a GSKill ddr3 1333mhz and a similar transcend/kingston one

    @dvijaydev46
    why do u call a kingston/transcend ddr3 a crappy one

the price difference is almost 1k for a 4gb kit
    is it just about OCing

how much fps difference between the two???

^^ Hmm just saw that. But Biostar boards will be far better than MSI boards due to their PCBs. I would ask the OP to get TA790GXE a DDR2 board with 4GB CL5 1066 MHZ RAMs, which will be a cheaper buy, but provide the same performance, if not higher than the DDR3 1333 CL9 Rams.

I think DDR3 mobo are the future and going with DDR2 mobo which is equal to a DDR3mobo now is waste if you have the money.

    DDR3 rig futureproof

Because they are vale DDR3 rams with CL9 cltency which defeats the very purpose of DDR3 (read faster). Whether they are Transcend/Kingston or even G-Skill value rams, they are as said above, CL9 rams which provide no performance benefit over 1066MHz cl5 rams but carry 5.2K per 4gb, whereas you can get better CL4 800MHz Rams or 1066 CL5 RAMs cheaper than that.

Yes the G-Skill rams I've mentioned will be helpful while OCing.

There won't be any performance difference b etween the afforementioned DDR3 and DDR2 RAMs. Good DDR2 RAMs are cheaper than DDR3 value RAMs.

DDR3 maybe futureproof. But even the DDR3 mobos are more expensive than DDR2 boards. What I was saying was, let the OP get a board and RAM good 4gb for today so that he wouldn't have to upgrade his ram in the next few years.
