Query i5 CPU config..help needed

Hi guys..

I'm new here and a total computer noob!
I am in urgent need of a machine and have to get one asap..would be very grateful if you guys could help out.

Some details I hope that shall help...

Budget : 50k for JUST the CPU and UPS.
[Don't need monitor,keyboard,speakers and mouse.]

Would a low end i7 be possible or should I go in for an i5?

Usage and Graphic Card :
It's going to be for everyday use and maybe a little gaming once in a while(nothing too extreme..COD4/6.)
Other than that I work in graphics and film..but do NOT need a very hi-end card.

MOBO :

I'd prefer anything but Intel.
No plans of Oc'ing...know NOTHING about it.
Would also like to know if the stock cooler is okay or need to get an upgraded cooler.

Thanks a tonne in advance,
Spekter!

Cpu - Intel core i5-750 (2.66Ghz) - 10.4k
Mobo - GA-P55M-UD2 - 6.7k
Ram - Transcend 2x2gb 1333mhz ddr3 - 5.2k
HDD - Seagate 500gb - 2.3k
Optical drive - Samsung/LG DVD writer - 1.1k
Graphics card - ATI HD 5770 1gb GDDR5 - 11.5k ( DX11 futureproof)
Cabinet - Cooler Master Elite 334 - 2.1k
SMPS - GlacialPower 650W - 4.6k / Corsair VX 550 - 5.5k
UPS : APC 1000 VA - 6.3k
Cooler : Cooler Master Hyper TX3 - 1.3k
Speakers : Altec Lansing BXR 1221 - 1.1k
Total - 51k / 51.8k

Note : 1. An i5 rig wud be enough for ur requirements.
2. An i5 compatible mobo is capable of handling 16gb.
3. An aftermarket cooler is recommended as i5 heats a little.
4. Corsair VX 450 dosen't make sense @ 4k
5. i7 cpu 920+mobo+3gb DDR3 ram ~ 31k . U won't require an i7 920.

+1 for i5 rig.
core i7 dosent show any noticeable performance improvement over i5. yes threaded apps may give lil better performance. i5 is very VFM. Although going LGA 1366 would give you option for 6 six core in near future. ( If you want too upgrade your proccy within a year or so i.e.)
A good i7 920 rig will go over 50K with small improvement over i5 rig.

Y on earth will he buy that card ?? He has clearly said he is an occasional gamer.
Also, the VX550 is not 5.1k , cheapest i could find was Rs5.8k incl tax.
The VX450 does not make sense ?? Why will you say that ? Its a good PSU, easily handle a 5770.
a 1000VA UPS ? You serious ?? Dude i run my rig on a 500VA APC UPS and its fine.

You can make the rig a LOT cheaper, as this does not match your needs.
Save money else if you feel you have too much of it, donate it, many don't have it and need it!!

coming back to topic,
instead of the 5770, get a cheap 4670 or something that range (this is to full fill you Occasional gaming needs at lower settings), Glacial power 600W or even a much lower end , decent quality PSU is good to go.
A 600VA UPS will be enough. It provides 350W or something (i think).

happy shopping

With due respects,

Then why does he need a core i5 eh ?
Intel Core 2 duo or AthlonII x2 or Athlon II x4 620 on some DDR2 mobo won't it be enough ,it wud save money for donation no?
Forget DDR3, DDR2 wud be cheap and wud do the job no ?
Why 22" a cheap 19" Dell E1909 @ 7k wud be much better as it wud save more money , no?
Why an aftermarket cooler , then stock cooler wud be fine no?
Why a 500gb HDD , won't a 160gb be sufficient , huh?

Q . Y on earth will he buy Ati 5770 ?? He has clearly said he is an occasional gamer ?

A . Because his monitor will be 22". For a 22" Ati 4850 is minimum required whether or not u r occasional or hardcore gamer. Ati 4670 will not even come close to being sufficient. Not at all recommended for a 22" . I suggested Ati 5770 keeping in mind that it fairs nearly equal to a 4870 and supports more than decent playable fps in full HD resolution. Secondly it is a dx11 card and wud be futureproof and it is a perfect HTTPC gfx consuming low power , nearly equal to a 4870 and produces little noise

Corsair VX 450 is not worth 4k beacause GlacialPower 650W - 4.6k is a much better buy.

Sorry i quoted vx 550 wrong. Corsair vx 550 - 5.5k.

I suggested 1000va ups for better support during power failure. Moreover a system of 65w psu will try to draw a minimum of 600w during full load.
Then a 600va ups suppling 350 watts ( which u think ) wud not be sufficient.
As a result psu will draw in more power and ups unable to proveide it so , the psu will burst with the entire rig

I suggested GlacialPower 650W - 4.6k / Corsair VX 550 - 5.5k if he ever wanted to sell his card and buy gt300 or ati 5850/5870 then he won't have to buy a new psu

Hey Anubis,Zopeon,rajan1311,comp@ddict,Srirama...

Thank you all for your posts and suggestions!
I am more or less decided on everything you guys suggested.
Still in a lot of doubt regarding the graphics card though. The ATi 5770 is looking a little expensive to me and being relatively new in the market..I think I'll wait until Nvidia comes out with theirs.
Until then could you guys please suggest something cheaper that'll allow gaming and could support an HD monitor?I'm looking at something relatively basic since I'll be upgrading once the DX11 cards are out.
Maybe if I manage to save a tidy bit here..I'll go in for another motherboard if you could recommend.

[Don't understand or know anything AT ALL about graphic cards.I've heard of very bad after sales service of Asus in Kolkata...will be moving out soon though hope services are better elsewhere? Will avoid Asus mobos/graphics card unless absolutely recommended by you guys.]

Going by the requirements, a 5770 is not needed here as the OP is an occasional gamer.

Moreover going by the build, a VX550 as PSU is an overkill unless the OP is going extreme gaming next year! Better, get the VX450 which is available for around 4k.

You made a lot of sense my friend. Read your post with a cool mind later.

Spekter has asked for an i5 rig. Cant change the i5 right ??? He has asked for a rig for general purpose, Not gaming. I know he can go with stuff other than i5, an athlon 2 would do, but he wants an i5, not a gaming rig.
He needs DDR3 (duh!). Even 2Gb will be fine for him. 4GB is good, y on earth will he ever buy 16GB (read carefully, EVER) untill he really wants to do heavy duty photo editing.
11k not not a small my friend, it not really going to be of any use to him.
A VX450 is also more than enough for his needs. VX550 is an overkill.
160GB and all that blabla you wrote is plain BS, get the point, dont act stupid...ehh ehh "with due respect ie"

Thats stupid math. Any system, spl his will never come close to that mark, it will not even go above 250W with a 5770.
He has a 22" Full HD monitor (assume), who says he wants to play at 1920x1080p ?Maybe he got it for movies and other stuff, he is not a gamer, cant u get it? he will not mind playing on med settings at 780p res.

Between the GP 650W and VX550, what in you mind justifies the higher price of the VX550 ?? the GP is better right ? more amps and better efficiency at lower price?

Generally, generally ppl buy a UPS to give them enough time to save work and switch the PC off safely, only if there is a need will the user buy a more expensive variant.

What if i say my budget is Rs4 lacs and i want a PC just for surfing the net, will you recommend an Alienware ?

So u think an ATI 4670 can pull off Full HD occasional gaming and it is sufficient for a 22" eh ?

Looks like thousand of people will have to refresh their knowledge and take tutions from u huh !!

Dude i did correct my mistakes i felt i had made. So why crying over spilt milk ?

I still believe Ati 4670 is not at all recommended for 22" monitor no matter wat he is doing . Ati 4850 is minimum.

P.S. - Please no hard feelings.
