Can i lower my cpu temps to this low??

    I have AMD Phenomâ„¢ II X3 720be

its operating voltage is 0.850v -1.425V as per amd

Can i set its voltage (cpu vcore) to the least value or say 1.0volts?

I just tried it at 1.18v and its working like charm and drop in temps too.

So can i reduce it till 1v or less than that?

    Will it be safer?

Yes you can,but probably the processor wont perform upto the mark (as on default voltage) coz it would be running out of juice..Rather with undervolting it you can also try lowering the frequency of cpu to make it stable in all conditions, but better get a aftermarket cpu cooler to keep the performance up and lower down your temps. Undervolting can't hurt it. Of course, undervolting can cause instability, depending on what speed you're running at.

    0.850v
THis is when the CPU downclocks to 800Mhz at idle

    1.425V
This is when the CPU is running full speed and load at said speed

Now, lowering the vCore puts a cap on the upper limit of the CPU voltage at full speed and load. Get it?

So now at your said speed(max), your CPU will only go upto 1.18v instead of 1.425v

I've seen Phenom II X4 955's doing a BEST of 1.175v at stock clocks. I think you should be able to achieve the same.

Yeah you got me right. I want stock clocks but at lower volts. So currently i'm doing at 1.18v and planning to go as low as 1.10v but before that need to know how safe it will go.

Hope i wont kill my dear proccy.

dont mess with the voltage/clock speed. best solution would be install some high air-flow fans on your cabby.

    tested at- 1.10v

    speed- stock 2.8ghz

    oc- no

    uc- no

    temps- below 25c

    room temp- 32c

    stability- 3hrs stable on prime

    gaming- cod-blackOps- 2hrs

    load temps- 33c

    error- nil

    hangs- nil

    bsod- nil

    success rate- 100% :hap2:

    Oh yea i recall, X4 955 is 3.2GHz, this one is 2.8GHz

So gaming is good, prime is good.

How much of a difference did you find in temps btw?

And congratulations, I'm sure you shaved a 95W processor to a good 65W one or less.

Re: Can i lower my cpu temps to this low??

Previously when the volts were auto (1.25v) temps were --idle 35c-38c & on load 46-49c

and thereafter the story is posted here.

The biggest mistake i did was applied another thermal paste (tried ocz extreme/as5/mx2 etc) while removing the best ever amd stock paste in a greed to get lesser temps.

The original amd paste was awesome...gave temps like 24c-28c idle & 33-36c loads.

    And i really miss it

Re: Can i lower my cpu temps to this low??

u can lower ur voltage to get lower temps...but at very low voltages (say 1v) the reliability drops and u might get random lockups and bluescreens just as when u OC and give it insufficient voltage...there isnt sufficcient power...so u've got to try and use Prime95 to get stable voltages..

1.1v is the lowest I think you can go, but good job
