Can IFB additives be used in non IFB wm's?

Can additives for IFB wm's like descal and protecta be used in other wm's?

These are powders to descale the wm tub and prevent the formation of scales.

    Additives & Accessories

imo, my old top loading wm had lot of scale build up in it and agitator used to get stuck due to the build up.

the only way i think scales can be removed is by adding some mild acid like hcl to the water at around 5-10% concentration. but Don't know what effect it will have on the wm. I think even the powders IFB is selling is some mild acid.

^... its alkali not acidic.. you can use it on other washing machines as well unless they specifically tell you not to use descaling agents...

Vinegar is a mild acid that works quite well for removing scales. 1-2 cups of vinegar in a full wash cycle at maximum temperature should be good.

I do it every 3 months for my washing machine, because my usage is limited. You might want to descale every month, if your usage is frequent or the water is hard.

Acid will damage the drum and the linings. Use standard products, no homebrew. Have not seen the use of Vinegar tho, google may help?

^... Vinegar also works... Its quite mild.. It was the standard cleaning agent for IFB washing machines (recommended by them) until they came up with their own expensive descaling agent. This is where they started pushing their product..

2 cups of plain synthetic vinegar (not sweet vinegar) in one wash cycle every month works well as well...

yes u can use it,but for my WM i wanted a permanent solution so i used a water softner, which results in better wash quality uses lesser detergent & water,it also prevents scale formation, usualy mid to high end dishwashers come with a built in water softner.

i have been using it in my WM for more then a year now, their seems to be no formation of scales.

well their is one company that makes it here in india which is meant for WM,if u call them they will redirect u to buy from the WM companies accesories or service division.

there are also water softer solutions by KENT which softens the water for the entire house its basically connected to the water tank outlet.so there wont be any formation of scales in dishwashers,WM,geyser, steam iron etc.nor will scales form in the pipes.
