Go for LG 42LH90.... it is a LED TV..

and at around 70k to 80k its a steal..

If u cant extend ur budget... get Sony V series KLV 40V550A/B - 60k

    and Samsung LA40B550K1R.. around 60k.

Its festive season so you should get a lot of cash discounts.. just ask for it.

Any1 frm the above three wud b the best arnd tht budget.

if money is not the first priority then go for SONY BRAVIA Series.

i've seen diff. bet. SONY & any other Brand LCD & found SONY to be the best.

Just walk into your nearest E-Stores like NEXT etc where they keep all types of LCD side by side have a look & decide yourself.

Sony is best for LCD's Even if u cant buy the Bravia any other Sony would be better than the Others and please dont get tempted by the Samsung LED tv it is not worth the price

Stick to Sony or Samsung if you want a good image quality. The new Sony S series with BE3 is costing around 65k. Also the older K model costs around 69k. Panasonic is good, but rather go for their plasmas than LCD's. But all round VFM is LG. I don't think there are a lot of LCD's with USB input which plays divx movies.

Panasonic has launched the TH42PG10. Full HD plasma. Best bet in that price range.

A close second would be the LG LH90. LED backlit, better than any Sony or Samsung in that price range.

well in plasmas u can consider the panasonic 42G10 plasma but little cheaper is the 42S10 it won't show images as bright as G10 let alone a lcd,but it does have decent blacks which surpasses that of IPS based lcd tvs and even some VA based lcd tvs.

in lcds u can get the sony S550A great for SD videos, but it is expensive for what it offers u can get a samsung B650 for little more which has more features similar performance better in fast moving action or sports scenes but has a glossy screen, its contrast levels, viewing angle may will vary depending on the panel u get, mostly a CMO for india.

then there is the new LG LH90 which has local dimming LED,but since it uses a IPS panel despite having local dimming the contrast is boosted upto a certain point in certain areas.although i haven't seen it yet,my guess is that it will definetly match or surpass the contrast levels of most lcds and plasmas sold currently.

Ok, I'll bite. Which VA based LCD can give deeper blacks than the 0.03cd/m2 seen on the G10?

The SONY 40V550 is also a good choice. With the 70K budget, it fits in too. However, really do not know the difference between the 40S550 & 40V550. Maybe the V series uses a slightly better panel? May have slightly higher native contrast?

I looked at the LG LH90 LED and was not too impressed. Probably the LG store where I saw it, had not set it up properly??

Yesterday i went to some LG/sony dealer...

LG80FR 4ms response time, is available for 58K - if you want good sound than this is the one to go

LG Scarlet 2.0 LH 70 Series 2.5 ms response time- 66K - if you want to enjoy HD content this is a brilliant LCD

the newly released LH90 isn't available yet though LG has started marketing it, the dealer don't even has a price of it.

LG is offering 50DVDs and HDMI dvd player free.. diwali offer

Sony S series 40S550A was for 63K - no diwali offer not VFM.. seen this in person DVD playback wasn't good.

i was not able to get its response time.. though i read somewhere on the net that it is 8 ms..

Sony V series 46 incher was for 83K

someone plz tell me the response time of sony V and S series.. i have latest booklet of Sony lying with me and they have not mentioned response time in any of the sets.. wtf

and guys here saying Sony is great, best... it depends on models to models... higher models of Sony are good but at entry level they are not so good and VFM

Actually i am also looking for a 42 incher this diwali I have narrowed down to Scarlet 2.0 LH70 and will be buying soon if LH90 doesn't comes out... i hope its price will be again sub 70 k for 42 incher

All the LGs mentioned above are IPS and sony ones of CCFL

well thats what i said it surpasses the ips based tvs and VA based lcd.only some VA based local dimming LED lcds can go lower, again only upto a certain point

    @ishashank

well no one looks at response time these days, since they all have overdrive circuits, but usualy the SPVA based samsung and sony natively have a higher response time.

Ok.. My experience with 40-42" LCD TV demos so far. Comparisons were made with the same HD sources and played with the settings on the remote. This is very subjective as I am narrating what I saw and please take this with a pinch of salt.

The other day saw Samsung 6 Series, LG LH50 and Sony V/W Series together. The color rendition is better on V series and LG. The skin tones are truer on them. Samsung colors were saturated. It definitely looked flattering and image pops out but the colors were wrong. Adjustments didn't help it much.

Shadow details - None could beat Sony V with BE 3. Neither LG nor Samsung couldn't bring out the details in the shadows of a scene that V/W series could. The shadow was full black in both LG and Samsung. This is as though someone has applied a 'custom curve' to an unprocessed image in Photoshop, if you know what I mean. For that matter, Sony's own BE 2 engine V/W series couldn't bring out this much detail from the same scene. W series did whatever V series did and much more with motion scenes. SD content also looked better on Sony, IIRC. In this comparison, I came off with warm thoughts about Sony with LG very close to it.

Samsung is pushing LED models in the 6 and 7 Series. LCDs in this range have almost disappeared. Compared LG LH90 and Samsung 7 series LED backlit the other day. Look wise sammy is drop dead gorgeous. LG was very unlike a LED backlit tv, with thick panel. Even in this comparison, LG colors were truer than sammy. Shadow details is also more. But samsung brightness is more. The PQ on both TVs is very good. But, for me 1.3L for samsung is a deal breaker when LG LH90 comes at 75K.

Now, the comparison that I am looking forward for is a Sony W series and LG LH90. Not sure where I can get that kind of comparison as the showrooms invariably keeps LED tvs away from LCDs. Let me check out some more showrooms...
