Wii, DS Officially Arriving in India on 30th Sep ‘08

For all those who have been lamenting about the non-availability of Nintendo Wii in India, well, here is some good news. After a couple of false starts and rumors, we can confirm that the Wii is about to be officially launched in India! Making the news even more sweeter is the fact that even the DS will be launched in tandem with the Wii!!
Samurai-India, in partnership with HCL, will be officially launching the Wii and DS on 30th September 2008. In fact, they have already unofficially started supplying the consoles to all the major electronic chains and it’s only a matter of time before we start seeing them on the store shelves. The Nintendo Wii will be priced at INR 19,990 while the Nintendo DS will be available for INR 7,990.

Oh, dear god no.

It would be intresting to see India's reaction to a console like Wii!!
It could be the indian middle class family's (Family's, not kids's) first taste of pure, fun, console gaming.

A Wii demo counter around the city would definitely boost it's demand and sales in India. You'd be surprised how many people are ignorant to the workings and existence of a Wii

Hopefully the cost of a modded piece will go down now

The big question as mentioned in the TP link is whether Wii will be repelased as a PAL or a NTSC/U model. Releasing it as PAL will basically tie India up with US/Australia release cycle [ who normally get games as late as 9 mothes after they release in Us/Japan].
But thne wii already has enough party games for people to feed on for monthes...

You could buy a Xbox WITH games for the price of a Wii. Are they stupid? Who would buy this?

Especially when you consider most of Nintendo stuff is built well and doesnt really need warranty you would be nuts to ignore the grey market.

Haha, yeah. The middle class family is totally gonna dunk 20K on a gaming machine.

I hate the pricepoint just as anyone else does, but that is still poor logic.

Well if you compare the fact that one machine is more expensive to make and has more under the hood, and you get games bundled with that, its a fair point.

Not trolling mind you, around 12k and I would have bought one on the spot. Hell with Wii sports bundled I would have shelled 14-15k no questions asked. But 20k is a joke. As bad as the iphone one.
