Camera need a telephoto zoom lens. help needed.

is Tamron AF 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di LD Macro and Sigma 70-300mm F/4-5.6 DG Macro can be used as telephoto? and how good is that compaired to canon 55-250??

all the lenses mentioned suffers from CA.I am using tamron 70-300mm di ld macro, macro is usable feature.See this flickr link- Flickr: Thomas Jude's Photostream

All the bird and bug shots are taken with this lens...If budget permits go for Sigma 70-300mm APo version.
Among tamron and sigma non APO ,Tamron is optically better but the build quality is bad...
Sigma APO is better than Both Tamron and sigma non APO. Canon 50-250IS has the best build, I cannot comment on the optical quality of this one bit it should be better than both Tamron and sigma.
IMO none of these lenses would match with the 18mp sensor on your 550d....If possible save for the canon 70-300mm IS

Upgrade to 25k and get a Tamron 70-300mm USD

Nice IQ at even 300mm (all the cheaper zooms give poor IQ at this focal length). Fast AF and reasonably good build quality. :)
