Microsoft To Retire Windows Live Messenger For Skype By Q1 2013

Microsoft has announced that they will be retiring their Windows Live Messenger service by Q1 2013 and Skype will provide the Live messenger functionality.



Microsoft's Skype in its latest version 6 for Widows and Mac already allows users to log-in with their Microsoft and Facebook accounts.

Microsoft announced in Skype blog , "Our goal remains to deliver the best communications experience for everyone, everywhere. We want to focus our efforts on making things simpler for our users while continuously improving the overall experience. We will retire Messenger in all countries worldwide in the first quarter of 2013 (with the exception of mainland China where Messenger will continue to be available)."



The process of merging millions of users from both the services has already begun. When user sign in, they will be given option to sign-in using Microsoft account, and if they are using Skype and Messenger already, the accounts can be merged.
