This is my 5th time i have tried to install Mandriva using a USB ... the setup starts and hangs on the Mandriva splash page .... and the mandriva seed that is recommended for USB boot doesnt even read my transcend 4Gb Stick on the program so i used netbootin instead buy no luck on mandriva so far ...anyone can throw some light on this problem.
 
Some distros (mailny RPM ones) have a problem with unetbootin if you use it with their DVD image.. If you have Linux installed in your vicinity then I suggest you use the following command. First copy the disc ISO image in your home folder then issue

dd if=nameofiso.iso of=/dev/sdX

Where X is the letter of your USB drive.
 
Try using SUSE studio image writer, it works for me for all distributions whereas unetbootin fails for most of them, in my case.
