The Lava XOLO A800 is a mid range Android smartphone which follows the recently launched XOLO A700. At first glance, you might mistake it for a cheaper or lowed end config to the Intel Atom powered Lava XOLO X900. Note the difference in the naming scheme. 'A' for 'X'. Read on to know what's changed between the XOLO A700 and the A800.
Lava XOLO A800

The Lava XOLO A800 doesn't bring much to the table over and above the XOLO A700. In fact, for most of it the XOLO A800 is identical to the A800. What's new in the A800 is it's new multimedia focus, especially in the photography department. The A800 packs a special 8 MP BSI (back side illuminted) sensor (similar to those being used in the HTC One series). This pretty much gurantees a good camera to people who are looking to buy this phone.
Lava XOLO A800 Full Specifications

  • Mediatek MT6577 chipset
  • 1 GHz dual core ARM Cortex A9 CPU
  • PowerVR SGX531 GPU
  • 512 MB of RAM
  • 4.5" qHD (960*540) IPS display
  • Dual SIM (3G + 2G)
  • 8 MP BSI camera sensor, LED flash
  • VGA front camera
  • 4 GB of internal storage, expandable upto 32 GB via micro SD card
  • 1600 mAh battery
  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

The battery goes down to 1600 mAh instead of 1700 mAh. We do not however understand as to why this was done. A phone for 12k with an 4.5" IPS capacitive display of qHD resolution (putting it at a 245 ppi) is nothing to snort at.
Buy the Lava XOLO A800 for R. 11,999

The XOLO A800 retails Rs. 2,000 above the price of the A700. Do you think the 2k price premium is justified for a slightly smaller battery but just a better camera? If this phone had 1 GB of RAM, we would have an easier time recommending it, but this one is just for those who really want a better phone camera.
