PC Peripherals How much Power does PC consume ?

Hey,

Can u please give the split up of power that will be consumed by my PC ?
like monitor % , Harddisk %

And also the ways to reduce the PC power consumption .....

Bye

I can give you a rough Idea and it depends on specific model of components you are using.

Keeping in mind a mid-end PC 25K-30K

1*120mm FAN = 8-9W(+4W for LED)

1*80mm FAN = 8W(+4W for LED)

Processor = 45W - 120W(depends if idle or Under Load or OC'd)w/ Fan

Motherboard = 45W - 240W(depends if idle or Under Load or OC'd)

HDD = 10W-25W(depends if idle or Under Load or on its rpm)

DvDRW = 5W-25W(depends if idle or reading a disc)

Ram = 4W(single DDR2 stick at stock and OC'd)

Portable USB HDD = 15-30W

USB Pen Drive = 5-15W

Monitor 17'' CRT = 60W

19'' LCD/TFT = 60W(1yrs-2yrs old) newer monitors are able to keep it under 40W.

To get a real figure compare it with the SMPS efficiency.

Eg : POV500W eff. = 75% => 25% more power consumed than actual power measured.

=> a 200W system(w/o LCD/CRT) consumes = 200W + (200*25%) = 250W.

so here, you have a ballpark figure of power consumption component wise. If ur wise convert them to respective % if u please :bleh: .

Cheers.

Components mentioned in my siggy demand 140W @ idle, 340w~ @ load. Power consumption from mains depend on UR SMPS efficiency.

my pc with a inefficient p4 2.6ghz,865gbf,2 sticks off ddr ram,2HDDs,6600gt agp card,audigy 2zs card,ethernet card and a 22inch viewsonic lcd ,and a cheap zebronics 400watts smps together consume.
92/93watts idle/torrent download.
internet browsing 110 watts to 120watts.
battlefield 2 gaming 148watts
playing audio 98 to 102watts
playing divx/xvid videos 103watts to 108watts.
playing 1080P hd video 138watts
shuttind down computer(when loging off and savin settings) 135watts)
22inch viewsonic at lowest brightness 15watts.
cpu and viewsonic lcd at stby- 4.6watts.

the above consumption can wary slightly due to voltage fluctuation

This may not be true.any CRT monitor being getting older the more ,will eat power above 80Watts for even 15 " CRTs(old tube may not be a good idea) .

Correct.
17 inch CRT = same power consumption as 22 inch LCD.

well my sony 21inch crt tv consumes 75watts at 50% brightness,when there is no signal i.e (when white and black dots are shown)since when u measure it in normal viewing it depends on the image shown ,if its a white image then more power consumption if its a black image then my tv consumes around 20watts less at 50% brightness settings..
my sony 32inch lcd tv with lowest backlight setting consumes about 66watts it consumes the same irrespective of what image is shown and my 22inch lcd at the lowest backlight consumes only 15watts.

Thanks a lot for such quick replies......:eek:hyeah:

I have a setting as:

Turn off hard disk : Never
System standby : Never

So as my hard disk wil never be turned off during night, Wat are the other components that has to on so as to keep the hard disk on ???

Thanks in advance...:hap5:

hey,

Where can i get the power consumed by each of the PC components in my CPU When the system is idle ?

To be more specific, i need to know the watts consumed by each and ech components during idle time.....
